I think we both know that's not going to happen.

Legge's career has come full circle - she was a judge / mentor on Formula Woman (or whatever it was called) 15 or so years ago.

She was sacked because a couple of the contestants crashed while she was supposed to be coaching them.

First W Series champion Jamie Chadwick's next move is to race in 'Extreme-E', a series which apparently aims to raise awareness of climate change and environmental issues by racing in remote, environmentally-sensitive areas... scratchchin

That's it, we'll save the world by carting tonnes of heavy equipment all around the world to put on a show that nobody is interested in seeing.

But what the hell is Katherine Legge doing on there, that's hardly promoting new talent is it? If you don't know her she's 39 and already raced in Indycar, ChampCar, DTM, Formula E, Sportscars, Daytona 24 hrs, Indy 500 and even NASCAR.
Makes an absolute mockery of the series IMO, might as well sat Desire Wilson if she wants to make comeback

Did you read the article? Using a "floating paddock" which will reduce the freight emissions by 2/3 compared to air travel..

Will it be pulled around the oceans by sail power or a solar powered ship. Or use it's own big diesel engines?

That will be handy when they're racing in the Himalayas and Amazon rain forest.

A bit like saying if I punch you in the face you'll only lose 2 teeth, a kick and you'll lose 3 laugh

Don;t you just love it - you can almost hear the feverish excitement at finding something new to snipe about this series Or is it that some folk just can't cope with the idea of women being given an opportunity in motorsport , something a little more becoming than being a trussed up like a Christmas turkey grid girl ?

I think yes there is an issue with perhaps heads in sand.

But I do feel that a series designed to only benefit women rather misses the point and actually offers up the wrong message.

I agree it is a great step for those involved, especially in terms of media profile and chances, but where then is the series for people from poor backgrounds, would that not also attract girls and boys whom otherwise would have no chance?

Or is that really now being replaced by Esports?

So you think offering an opportunity to the massively experienced Katherine Legge is what this series should be about?

Or are we not allowed to say anything about the series that isn't 100% positive?

Not at all- but I get tired of the sniping subtext of so many posts . Reasoned criticism is fine - and I agree re Legge BTW - but I sense that, for many ,they have a problem with women racing at all , and miss no opportunity to carp.

It's ok guys, the white knights are here.

My biggest gripe is getting huge opportunities like this for free. I'd love to race higher than club level but as it is this sucks all the money and life out of me. I'm the wrong gender.

There has been some very reasoned criticism here, but there are people here who can't accept that not all of us think that Jamie Chadwick, Billy monger and Robert Kubica are driving gods. JC has some very good people behind her who won't let her make herself look stupid by getting out of her depth. Thankfully RK has been shown up by George R, let's face it, F1 would have looked bloody stupid if RK had done anything other struggle at the arse end of the field. BM has taken a few non driving opportunities.

Apologies for being a realist.

Not at all - I don't disagree with the essence of what you say. Re Billy monger I was at Oulton for his F3 return. He is undoubtedly a very brave and likable young man but I found the scrum of people who folllowed him through the paddock, as if he were the only 'proper' driver present, and taking a blizzard of pictures deeply crass, and almost disturbing.

I see common sense has prevailed, thankfully.

There are competitions every year open to all (well nearly all as they have age limits but that's a different story) which have fully funded drives for the winner. As with anything in life if you're not prepared to put everything on the line to prove you're good enough are you really good enough?
