Sorry I can't see an introduction forum.
I am now disabled.
And no longer possess a driving license.
I have owned a HS Chevette and a HSR Chevette.
But both were only driven on the road.

I am very keen to co-drive for my carer. A 58 year YOUNG lady, who I feel sure will be quite handy at it.
I was going to but a rally prepared car. But as I don't see the point of having it sat in a garage for the majority of the year, I have decided to hire 1 at each event.
I live in Stockport and would prefer to travel no further than say 150 miles.
Can anyone recommend a competition ?

Hello Simon , It depends on the level of your disability , multi venue rallies in the Protyre series can involve a lot of in and out of the car, walking sometimes running to book into time controls , great championship though .
An alternative is the Motorsport News circuit championship or whatever it's called now , single venues , very little if any road timing and just line up in numerical order until its your turn to go .
You'll likely getter a better hire package for single venues to , travel and hotels etc for the crew and service/support members can soon add up . Best of luck , and keep us updated on your progress .

Simon, if getting in and out of the car and potentially rushing to time controls is a problem then competing in comp safari events could be an option. These are offroad races where the cars do a set course multiple times. The advantage of these over stage rallies is that you get in the car in the service area and you won't need to get out until you're back in the service area - all the timing is done electronically so there's no rushing about at controls. You don't have a due time either so things are pretty relaxed. There are some limited options for hiring a car but you could buy one yourself for much less than a rally car costs. There are plenty of events within 150 miles of Stockport.
There's also targa rallying where you get in the car at the start and only get out for lunch and the finish. You could do these in your road car if it complies with the regs. Stockport club were running one but it was postponed.

It maybe worth contacting John Goff - he runs the BMW mini rally challenge and has hire cars available I think, and used to run a rally hire car company. If you search for “rally cars for hire” on Facebook you should be able to find his contact details/ FB page. I think the mini series runs within the ANWCC championships, which is based around the the NW so in your Stockport area and it may be another way to contact John via that association.
