One I forgot about was Matt Aitken, one of the awful threesome that was Stock Aitken and Waterman, he did a few seasons of very well funded FF1600 I think, remember seeing him at Cadwell in a very smart car, a Swift maybe?
I remember him racing in Prosport 3000, some of the comments online suggest he was pretty decent as well. I alos found some interesting comments about him in a team with some of Dire Straits in the link below at the Birkett 6hr

I'm pretty sure he also raced in the Jaguar XJR-15 series that followed the F1 circuit for a season or however long it was

Listed as finishing last at Monaco and DNF at Silverstone .

He might have been a good race driver but not as good as the ex F1 and other high quality opposition .

Doesn't surprise me at all and lets be fair, not many people would be as good as ex F1 or other ex racing drivers but thanks for the confirmation smile

The ex-F1 drivers didn't knock out Platinum selling hit records. I'd call it Even Stevens

Shane Lynch of Boyzone (boyband). Raced in Brit GTs for a number of years before turning to drifting.
Yep, I was his engineer in British GT in '02/'03. He was pretty handy and although not a proper pro he was a very consistently quick driver who rarely if ever made mistakes. And a nice bloke to boot. We very nearly won the British GT Championship in '03 but Shane was taken out by a spinning backmarker in the final race. The backmarker, somewhat ironically, was only in the race because we'd loaned them an engine...

It's a shame he didn't pursue a racing career right from the start.

James Martin had a crack at the Millie Miglia once, I remember there was a documentary about it on telly. Terminally ill-prepared if I recall correctly.

I saw that years ago and have disliked him ever since. He cam across as an absolute bellend, treated his wife like dirt. If I remember right she really wanted to come and do the rally with him but he just bluntly told her no and that he would be taking a younger fitter woman as a co driver.

Scraping the barrel a bit here and not sure if it counts but numerous members of the F1 paddock used to or do race stuff. Newey, Toto, Marko, possibly Horner?

Obviously wont include all the ex F1 driver pundits but the ones above most wouldnt know them as drivers.

Is that the one where he blew up a freshly rebuilt engine by giving it maximum berries having not run it in (or something along those lines)?

I remember he came across as a right arrogant prat in whatever programme that was.

Jason Priestly, best known for starring in Beverley Hills 90210 in the 90s.

He's a big racing fan. I remembered he raced at the Long Beach GP/Toyota Pro-Celeb races. He followed it up and raced in Trans Am, Grand Am - won in Mid Ohio, rallying, Infiniti Pro Series - IRL/Indycar feeder series. In the latter he had a massive shunt at Kentucky Speedway that nearly cost him his life.

As already mentioned Mark Knopfler in various categories including Production Porsche in the late 80’s when I did it, and if my memory serves me correctly Mark King, Level 42, in the same championship. I didn’t see much of either of them as I was at the front hehehehehehe
