Presumably I'm going to have my racing licence in this month and I'd like to get rid off my yellow X a.s.a.p.

Please let me know what options I have to race 5-6 times in rented cars in the UK this year

Thank you

If you speak to Martin Phaff at Ginetta - 0114 2635900, he will put you in touch with the guy that builds the cars who I believe has a car to arrive and drive. Don't know the cost, but don't think it will be over the top.

If you want the best, then Tolbar racing also run cars in the Ginetta Championship (Michael Flounders - 01433 631 698), but thou shalt pay to go that way. However, Ginetta racing is cheap so this may not blow your budget.

Six races left, so job done:-

Rockingham 27/28 August
Mondello 17/18 September
Silverstone 8/9 October

With two races guaranteed at each event, or you may even get three.

Also, Silverstone race school run graduates events in FFord, but you may have to go through their courses first.

Thank you for the reply. I'm going to "graduate" from Silverstone race school so I'll check with them the FF events. Any other class you recommend?

Pretty much *every* series you can think of at club level will have someone hiring cars out on a race-by-race basis. There are some exceptions where you have to buy into the series but not that many!

Get in touch with the series organisers and have a chat they will be able to put you in contact with the right people

Is there a list of series running running in the UK available on the internet?

Not sure if you fancy coming up to Scotland, Knockhill, where you can hire/race the following:

Ford Fiesta XR2, if you fancy a bit of panel bashing. Ian Cowie is you man, also does Caterams (sp).

Radicals - contact Ian Forrest.

Legends - cannot remember who runs them but if you contact Knockhill they will be able to help you along with contact details for the two Ians.

KJR

Edited to add that with Legends you usually get three races in a day. Two 6 lap races and an 8 lap final.

I assume the national Legends which run down south use the same format

If you race Legends, can you get rid of your yellow X in 2 meetings? I had assumed not, as they are rounds then a final, but it would be worth checking out, and I'd love to know if you can...

I can't see why not. The heats would still me MSA sanctioned races, and therefore eligible for a signature (providing that you finish of course )

There don't seem to be any prices quoted

If anyone knows them, could they post them up, I'd be interested to compare them with mine

You can get the information you want from the various organising clubs, they usually list all of the series they support along with the regs. The regs for each series should list all of the various organiser contacts you need.

Most of the clubs seem to have websites but some are better than others.

I believe the max number of signatures you can get at one meeting is two reguardless of the number of races you are a classified finisher....

Pah youth of today, you needed 10 signatures when I started

Remember you can get one signature by marshalling for a day.....

At least I nthink that is still the case

Andy Holden (griff2be) started a thread a couple of years ago about getting a race license.

iirc he got rid of the cross, and got his Nat-A licence pretty quickly through marshalling and renting a Caterham a few times. May be worth checking out the Tuscan Challenge archives.

As far as costs - don't know. However, email RacyLady through her profile. I beleive that she rented a Ginetta at the back end of last season. Should give an idea.

I got lost - why they give me signatures for marshalling? does it have anything to do with my development as a driver?

Probably does to be honest. You get a much better insight into how the meetings work, you will learn what to look out for on track - always useful - and will be watching racing from a different perspective, so will learn different things to purely spectating or even racing. Worth a go most definitely.

Could be, as you are getting to see things from the other side of the fence, literally.

Check out the following for more info re marshalling.

If you fancy trying a fairly quick single seater - Nick Edginton 07729 486585 (who has looked after my car for a couple of years) has a Formula Renault that he rents out for testing, Mono races and F4 in the 750MC I think it is about £650 per meeting.

My knowledge about Formula Renault is next to zero. How different is the experience compared to "normal" cars (I have a 968CS). How is the safety record?

Formula Renault is a proper slicks and wings formula and very very fast stuff indeed. havent driven one but have friends who have had Formula Vauxhall Lotus' which are similar. Things they are always mentioning are the cornering speeds, the level of grip and the power of the brakes. Despite the Porsche being a very capable car, I should have imagined they are a world away from a 968. Try the www.monoposto.co.uk lot as there are always drives available being offered.
