Cosworth (but depends on which bit iirc) is owned by Audi (?) or at least some non Brit organisation - as it has been non-british affiliated (Ford) for large periods of its life.

Nearest thing to a British engine is ... ?

Cosworth was split up a while back when Audi bought Cosworth Technology and Ford had Cosworth racing under the PAG empire. Recentely Audi sold their part to Mahle while Ford dumped Cosworth at the same time as Pi and Jag Racing. The guy that runs Champ Car now owns Cosworth, although Ford badges still appear on the Champ Car.

As for British Engines, well, outside of F1, you have Judd and Zytek (who are powering all the A1GP cars). Ilmor has recently been taken over 100% by Mercedes, (with a small bit of Ilmor in the US being sold off IIRC)

He WILL drive for BAR - but we have to be exposed to all the crap that is coming over how it will happen - boring (I'd try to do the same as he is though).

Cossy owned by the owner of the champ car series - now there is an idea make all f1 drivers drive champ cars - there ARE equal machines.

Like the idea of Hondas last race (1000bhp one race only) engine.

I still don't get you lot, JB is not being a tt, he has hardly said a word on this, at least until the press had whipped up such a fuss over it. And even then all he has said is that he'd like to stay at BAR and clarified that he had told this to FWs face.
We also know that FW claims to have a contract for JB.

These are the only things we actually know. We have no idea about sponsorship for Williams, we have not seen teh contracts etc, etc.

We are all just idle speculators

I can honestly say that if Button disappeared from F1 I would completely, totally committed to not giving a monkeys.

He seems a silly , vain little man with an average talent. He could switch to 2CV racing for all many people care.

I just hope Davidson gets a decent drive.

Toppstuff - what's your basis for Button only having "average" talent?...it's clearly not the 10 (at least) podiums he garnered last season, or his performances in the FW22 in 2000....

IMHO Davidson is the average one of the two - Justin Wilson put in a far better performance in a Minardi than Davidson who has always finsihed as bridesmaid in the championships he has competed in....

Blimey, when did that happen? Haven't been to the dentist recently so can't catch up on what is going on in Heat. Thought they were set for the long haul together.

Which reminds me. When JB first came into F1 you may recall his girlfriend at the time was the barmaid from his local to whom he swore undying love. One of the pre-season reviews in a lad's mag said of this: "just wait until the c*ck hungry blondes of the pitlane get hold of him"

I have long treasured that remark!

I agree with that.
Just like to add, If Davidson has real talent, then he has failed to show it.

I guess I've been impressed with the way davidson carries himself, and certainly in the past he has been no slouch when testing the BAR.

I confess to having a problem with Button. He seems quick and smooth but I am not convinced that he is achieving anything in the BAR that a reasonably large group of other drivers could not also achieve if they were in the car instead.

I just don't see anything special in him. Not a thing.

And yes, I think Wilson would do just as good a job in the BAR, if not better.

Ah, yes, I remember reading about Mahle and Cosworth Technology change of ownership now you mention it. Also the Ilmor takeover - or at least the story that it was going to happen.

Whichever way you look at it as far as F1 is concerned the UK's traditional dominance of both the chassis and engine technology (and even further back the gearbox technology as well) has waned quite dramatically in recent years.

Wilson is a racer, plus he actually has a track record in winning things - F3000 title and now doing very well in Champ Cars. Button was completely overshadowed in his F3 season but got a lucky break at Williams and the rest is history...

New to F1? Confused because people keep calling it a sport?

The only reason Ron would say a thing like that is that he thinks Button will be less of a threat to Mclaren in a Williams than a BAR.

No, I think the only reason he said it, is because a contract IS a contract.

Going back to sleep now.
