A lot of the issue there is the tv scheduling, there is really no need whatsoever for the whole day to be live on ITV, it is often the case also with BSB, a class with 60 riders in gets a 6 lap race just so that a dull BSB race can be shown live, I get it, but often it is the better supported stuff that gets the very poor deal.
Crikey, people usually moan that there isn’t enough motorsport on free to air TV. You, however, think there’s too much. Bizarre.

So do I . TV motorsport is rarely worth watching. It shows the viewer only what the director decides to show , creates false excitement and jeopardy, gives a 2D image and bad sound, and spoon-feeds the viewer information . The only TV racing I watch is F1 - everything else , including the BTCC , is beyond tedious . Live is the only way for me .

Disagree. The final BTCC race was brilliant watch. Truly exciting. There was lots going on, great tv and close racing.

An issue also is that the comms get tired, you get sick of the same voices.

I prefer watching top level motorsport on tv, but often with the sound off or with foreign comms as it just works better not getting irritated by cretinous commenators.

BTCC guys are very good, but again, it is a job for the boys sometimes, presenters have been the same for decades! Nothing wrong with them, but I think a freshen up at times is as good as any change

F1 is the epitome of tedious. Had to introduce pit stops and DRS to try to spice things up.
Each to their own.

almost agree: at the end when Tingram /Sutton were battling they cut to Lloyd crossing the line and we could haver missed something amazing.... luckily not as it happened, but the Director should have known better!

glad its on tv all day though

That will literally NEVER happen. They will ALWAYS show the winner crossing the line, regardless of what else is going on. It is this way in all TV coverage of racing all around the world.

I don't mind them cutting to the winner crossing the line if they then immediately cut to a relevant battle down the field within a second or two after, that's good direction in my eyes.

I enjoy watching it still, I just wish the cars were more unique.
I don't understand why BTCC keep using their own (unique?) regulations. Why are they not using the TCR regulations? Shirley it'd allow more people to enter into one of the most prestigious touring car series instead of having to comply to the BTCC regulations?

grids are full as they are. They don't struggle to fill them, even if some of the drivers struggle to pay for them.

No point doing TCR regs... at all.

Because Alan Gow didn’t invent it and he would lose his pre-eminent position as the promoter of BTCC if the championship did adopt TCR. Imho.

And I do think the BTCC should have adopted TCR - manufacturer support, cheaper running costs, cheaper for privateers, good market for secondhand cars, opportunity to run cars in selected European or world events.

It is the best idea, and in fact though the talent is not great the UK TCR scene is decent grids, but a very wide range of talent, butt eh racing is still good.

Gow will never do it his ego is so far up his arse.

TCR must have improved a lot since I saw it a few years ago . God , but it was beyond tedious- a small grid droning round and round and round in more practice time than F1 , so-so cars and prima donna drivers moaning about traffic . From 14 cars over 2 plus miles...

BTCC is a very successful touring car championship - i think he’s probably earned the right to do what he feels is best.
So many other championships have disappeared in the last decade.

Absolutely! I wish somebody like him could get hold of the BRC, and turn it into a success......it hasn't quite disappeared, but it's miles from where it should be.

is the BRC beyond saving though?

The last time it was 'proper' I'd wager was year 2000, the last year of F2 kit cars and any manufacturer representation. So that's 22 years ago. It's been in a coma, and it isn't coming out of it anytime soon. But lets leave that discussion to the rallying thread.
