From 'Motorsport Explorer ' - Linton on Ouse - 1.7 mile track used part of perimeter track and two sections of runway to give ...more curves than are normal on airfields. First meeting run by BRSCC took place in an all day rainstorm in July 1960 . A year later its final meeting took place at which a marshal was killed by an RAF officer driving a Formula Junior . Because the base is closely adjacent to the village one can imagine all sorts of problems if any serious use were made.
RAF Dishforth is better placed , having very few neighbours and excellent access off the A168 (the old A1 ). It's also down the road from me !

I think talk of “pop up circuits” is pie in the sky, really. Doubt it’s possible to meet the MSUK circuit licensing requirements, or get planning permission for change of use.
Far more potential to use the venues described for S/V rallying once or twice a year and that’s what I would be looking at.

I have four configurations for the Linton GP….
the pits are on the right, S/F on that straight
Green is mega fast
Yellow is slower and more technical
Red is probably most fun
Blue is probably similar to yellow
They’ve had planes there for 80 years so won’t mind the noise.

Great to see the contributions to this thread and more encouraging that there were/are discussions happening between MSUK and the MoD re: use of venues.
As has been mentioned, the chances of sourcing somewhere with a pitwall that will take a 10 tonne impact with 0 deflection are slim to f**k all, but then track days would still be possible with participants just using a more remote location as a paddock (e.g. Abingdon trackdays etc.)

Got a couple of things booked but so far they’re all at places I’ve already been to! The problem is I work alternate Saturdays and a lot of the good stuff falls on the weekends I’m in!

Mallory is one of the 3 UK permanent circuits I've not been to yet (others being Good Wood and Anglesey) so that might be my goal for 2023....(Although I have only seen rallycross at Lydden, rather than a pure tarmac race)
Anglesey is the best circuit in the country.
Not sure what it’s like from a spectators point of view tbh, but for driving it is epic, and the scenery is fantastic, with views of Snowdon over the sea. It’s important to keep your eyes on the track when driving, rather than admiring the scenery!
I appreciate that it is a long way away for many people but it is worth it if there is a two day meeting for eg.
Might I recommend the CSCC meeting on 1/2 July. This going to be unique in the U.K. as it will be a “Le Mans classic” style event with a series of 40 minute races throughout a 24 hour period. There will be 6 grids of cars who will each have 4 x 40 minute pit stop races for one or two drivers and that will include approx one and half night races for each grid.
Should be a great event, with a great atmosphere and the CSCC series making up each grid will have cars that,separately, cover the 60s, 70s, 80s and right up to the present day. CSCC has a reputation for providing very large grids at its meetings and I see no reason why this will be any different.

Anglesey is fabulous . I have only been the once ,when scribbling for the excellent CSCC, and I was blown away by the place -almost literally when I arrived in a gale. But when the weather calmed down it was amazing. TV doesn't do it justice - yes the views of Snowdonia are lovely but what the telly can't show is that at some points you are literally on top of a cliff with the sea below you - so you get the smell of the sea , seabirds wheeling and calling , passing boats etc.
Spectators not only get close to the track (unlike at the windy steppes of Silverstone ) but can walk an entire lap round . The view from Rocket was a favourite , and it's not often you hear a race engine work so hard for so long .
Very much worth a visit - why blow a grand or so at Silverstone GP to see two parts of bugger all when you can enjoy Trac Mon for pennies ?

The two are not incompatible. I really like Silverstone, even as a spectator. Anglesey is brilliant though you're right, particularly when driving it. Oh , I go there still - I intend to see the Pomeroy , which has always intrigued me , and stay on for CSCC next day. I will be 3 days at the Classic too as I can't resist open access to 1100 racing cars. I used to enjoy the track far more than I do now but I am an old enough fart to have seen Peterson at Woodcote , Mansell at Stowe and Stewart in the Daily Express Trophy blizzard .
It was never great viewing , but original Club and Woodcote were good . But now ...Jeez .... I watch racing at Village as it is in the same post code as I am , more or less , and overtaking is common and I watch practice sessions from Copse, Brooklands and so on . But it takes a modern F1 car to really look fast there - watching Verstappen and Norris (especially) at Copse last July was special , even if it was bizarre to be surrounded by a very vocal sea of juvenile Norris fans.

I think Silverstone is gradually being turned into a venue or an event, not a race track, and the two are very different things, requiring different types of facility, investment and fans.
As a fan going there to watch most club level stuff I feel like an annoyance, not welcomed. There are areas of the circuit that are great for certain cars to be seen. Hopefully not ruined by the new investments that are coming and already there.
But considering I live close by, I would much rather live closer to any other UK track, as Silverstone for me is being turned into something else, not a race track.
As a fan going there to watch most club level stuff I feel like an annoyance, not welcomed. There are areas of the circuit that are great for certain cars to be seen. Hopefully not ruined by the new investments that are coming and already there.

Tru Dat LB66. Like when they widened the track alongside the old pits and didn't rebuild the bridge, as it wasn't used during the F1 meeting so who cares....
Likewise not building a bridge or tunnel to the new 'Wing' pits, so you literally have to catch a bus to the pits for meetings such as the WEC where they welcome fans to the paddock.
