No idea about GlobalRacer’s situation but I have known people do it that way. Guy at my local championship told me his car was basically zero maintenance for the whole season, about 10 15-20 min races plus qualifying and practice on one set of tyres and pads.
Thought did help that the car was only about 400kg and going by lap times he was only driving it at about 75%.

Intriguing by LeMons, I went to search youtube and found this video. Certainly grass roots and lots of fun to be had and collisions to avoid.

Cant imagine Motorsport UK or MSVR getting involved in anything so crude. They are focused on the upper echelons which has veered towards the right crowd and no crowding. Luckily there are enough competitors with funds to support expensive circuit racing. Unfortunately the common man needs to look elsewhere.

there's loads of crapcan racing over in the US, even AER series which is a step above lemons/chumpcar(champcar now)/lucky dog etc have crap can guys turn up and race alongside decently prepped cars. It's a different world, you see huge grids for endurances and people are just as happy to be fixing the car during a race than out racing themselves. I think they just enjoy the day out rather than the result..

Our club racing in comparison is essentially professionalized club racing, racing that's not on the ladder, but sometimes it certainly feels that way with the amount of professional services in the paddock running customers.
LeMons in the US is brilliant, unique, and very American. As suggested above, it’s not really intended to be a serious competition as much as a bloody fun few days away with a bunch of mates. Even mates who drive and spanner for serious racing the rest of the year!

I love the videos of the ‘scrutineering’, where a case of beers gets left in the boot of the car, which the scrute says can’t possibly be allowed and gets ‘’confiscated’, as a blind eye is turned to the turbocharger from a large truck attached to the engine!

It’s the sort of thing that can never happen outside of the US, and perhaps Australia or SA, but would be great to see elsewhere. Because it’s cheap fun, and cheap fun is a good thing!

I was talking to a mate yesterday who is into kart racing in a big way. He is bloody quick as well.

He's been involved in SuperKart racing over the last five years. They run on regular car circuits. They have regular entry fees too - £385 per meeting. His budget is £1000 per meeting before any expensive engine blow ups.

Admittedly he is running a top level 100hp machine but kart racing is/was supposed to be cheap.
