I would not say DC has achieved very little, considering he has amassed the most points ever of any British driver, and has won 13 races. He may not have the killer instinct but he is still a very talented driver indeed. We will have to wait and see with JB, and it seems an awful long time to go with no race wins.

I will not rate Button AT ALL until he wins at least ONE race. At the moment he reminds me of Alesi, all promise but no results.

I would rate Button higher mainly for his attitude. DC loses in his head first then goes on track.

Did anyone see the GFoS footage where he was racing Scalextric, he came out with a classic excuse for losing before he started the race. Sad really as there is no doubt he has talent.

Until Button actually wins a race, surely comparing him to drivers that have is academic.

Just for the record, Coulthard won his first race in his first full season with Williams (Estoril) 1995, as well as 4 poles and 3 2nd places behind Schumi.

imo, button is just a typical mid-field driver, Alonso, Raikonnen are just too good

What I am really surprised about is Button descion to go with BAR. I would have thought after spending however many millions buy himself out of his Williams contract he would have gone for a better contract.

I would have thought he would stand a good chance of removing Fisichella from Renualt who have a far better provinance at winning in F1.

Read Mike Lawrence's article on Button in www.pitpass.com. More or less reflects my opinion - although I only read the article for the first time today.

I here what you are saying but in my opinion Button, of the two, appears the less hurried, smoother driver, whilst also being fantastically quick.

I don't think it's unreasonable to compare the two drivers, just based on past results and I don't think anyone is saying that Coulthard can't drive. Let's face it, he's one of the best 20 drivers in the world.

In fairness, didn't Button race, fight and beat Alonso at Hockenheim last year? And you couldn't really say that the BAR was miles better than the Renault.

Couthard crashed entering, not exiting the pit lane, a few years back. Apparently it was his 'idle strayegy'.

Lets look at how DC and JB have done against their team mates.

When Coulthard first arrived in 94 he looked stunning and was immediately challenging Hill but he seemed to lack the consistancy over the full race distance. Against Hakkinen in the early days he seemed to be a match for him until Hakkinen felt he had a car good enough to win when he stepped up the pace. Raikonnen massacred Coulthard. At Red Bull he seems to have the speed in the races while the young guns seem to have the edge in single lap qualifying.

Button was a match for Ralf by the end of 2000. Against Fisi it took him the full season to get up to speed and I don't ever remember him beating Fisi. I think Button beat Trulli. Against Villeneuve he seemed to win but Jacques retired from most of the races and always claimed he had a heavier car and would have beated Button eventually. Button thrashed Sato. How good is Sato? How good was last years BAR? Raikkonen and Montoya both won last year in apparently worse cars.

Remember a couple of those mega overtaking moves by DC on Schumacher. Remember all those times that McLaren let Coulthard down.

Remember Button looking good in qualifying but fading in the second half of the race.

Today I'd still have to go for Button but if Coulthard was five years younger....
