After visiting Silverstone last weekend I have decided I am going to no more GT races there. The organsiation was shocking and most of the stands (including the main stand opposite the pit lane) were closed and so were about 1/2 of the loo blocks. Maybe expected this on Saturday with reduced crowds but certainly not on Sunday.
Add to the fact no TVR's and the thrill has gone for me.
Been watching Tuscan's since 1990 and GT's for the last 2 or 3 years and really enjoyed the racing, especially when Tuscans and GT's were on the same programme.
Silverstone charged standard rates too which I am really pi55ed off about.
Goodbye Silverstone and maybe GT's.

Sorry to hear this Flip,

I must admit that I was dismayed by Silverstone's organisation ie toilets, grandstands etc but I am not going to let their p**s poor performance stop me from enjoying some great GT racing.

It was a real shame not to see any TVR's racing though but the Caterham racing at the end of the day was absolutely superb!

I am aways emarassed taking spectators to SIlverstone when we race there.

the viewing is crap, there are gates and fences everwhere.

there are lots of grandstands but 99% of the time they are closed.

Silverstone has some good facilities they just never let anyone use them, it just seems like an old boys club and they dain to let the plebs in occasionaly but dont let them use the facilties....

There will be 16-18 TVRs racing at snetterton on the 23rd though, so you can always come and cheer us on there. heck if you stand too close you'll probably get passed a spanner or asked to hold somthing

Graham's Tuscan has quite excellent provenance too

I'll be out for the last time in my Tuscan #6 (before it turns into Sagaris #6). Will be a bit weird racing against my old car....

Yeah I'll be there in my 3.9 Rv8 Tuscan so a good bit slower than the AJP V8 cars.

together with probably the biggest challenge car outing this year there will be v6 Tasmin, turbo tasmin, Griff, and 1960's Tuscan. All on track together

Andy, Just make sure your old car doesnt beat you well not unless i can find another 250bhp or its wet

Yeah I know - no pressure then!! It could be very interesting if it is wet - although with the long straights at Snett the AJP 'should' still be able to out drag the RV8 even with traction problems.

Dammit - more pressure...

(all assuming we fix the clutch problem and I didn't knacker the cylinder head gasket last time out sitting on the grid for an age. Oh for a garage/workshop/driveway to be able to look into these little matters between race meetings....)

You're not the only one. I miss the Tuscans & GTs and the great people we used to meet at the races.

Dude - sorry that you are unhappy with Silverstone, but sadly the people involved with the circuit are either running the race school and therefore don't care about the racing or the BRDC and "we" (I'm a member) are too fixated on F1.

It's never good when someone talks about not returning, but surely as organiser of the meeting it is upto the BRSCC to pay for grandstands to be open. It can't all Silverstone's fault, surely?

why not they charge enough for the circuit hire, and the grandstands are there not doing anything else...

The GT/F3 package is run by the SRO - Stefan Ratel Organisation - not the BRSCC.

Didn't see you there Ted although was looking out for you.
I can't understand why the main stand isn't open??? What would it cost - about nothing - maybe a bit of cleaning and security. Everyone was crammed into Woodcote (especially Saturday when it lashed it down) so every race was busy and not easy getting the best spot. I enjoy it as it is relaxed and you never struggle to find a good spot with plenty of space. The GT's is a Ferrari/Porsche outing with a few other marques thrown in for good measure - not really my cup of tea anymore - becoming similar to F1 which I hate.
Will have to look at alternatives for 2006.

The H&S rules that each grand stand needs marshalling in case of plagues of locusts and the like. Which is why they have them closed.

Silverstone's facilities are better than pretty much every UK circuit other than Rockingham, although the circuit is dull IMHO.

I thought there was a decent crowd for the GT weekend, considering the weather and time of year. The Woodcote stand was pretty full and there were plenty of people elsewhere around the circuit.

If Silverstone think that contributes towards a good days entertainmemt then they are mistaken (IMO). I have never know the stands closed before so why now. Just makes the walk to the pits to the stands and to fins any loos open a long walk - not good when you've got a bad back (Mrs FFG).

For anything other than the F1 I dont think they are as everything is closed, so not a lot of use. and for the f1 its all too expensive to use. so imho a total waste of time and effort..

Hmm, have to dispute that i'm afraid. If that's the official Silverstone line then they're telling porkies.

The Britcar 24 Hours is a perfect example. The main pit straight Grandstand was open from start to finish, and no-one in the closed grandstands was told to move. All the toilet blocks were open too, i think i used most of them

Contrast that with the BTCC (race day). The main Grandstand was not opened until minutes before BTCC race 1 even though this was several hours after opening time and a good 60-90 minutes after the support races had begun. I suspect the reason for this was the numerous complaints to assorted officials from disgruntled customers, myself included.

As for the GT / F3 Package, i saw them at Croft & Donington this year and thoroughly enjoyed both meetings.

Roll on 2006 !

I can vouch for that as I was asleep in that grandstand at about 4am! And yes, I think all the toilet blocks were open that weekend; I certainly didn't come across any locked doors, fortunately!

For anyone lamenting the 'demise' of BGT, try Britcar in '06. It will be a proper series next season as opposed to a group of stand-alone races and should therefore attract more regulars and even stronger grids than this season. With Dunlop backing too, this could potentially be the new BGT...

Why is everyone sooooooo pre occupied with Sillystone?
What about Donnington? Great for viewing (especially if its dry) and a better curcuit all round (IMHO) I've seen some wonderfull racing there in the past from GT's to ALMS/ELMS venture back along. Is it down to cost or the same old problem of noise? Would love to see the LMES race there. Any body else agree/disagree?
