Raikkonen's advisors could have told Renault that he wasn't coming there without his having committed to someone else, if he already had Ferrari and McLaren contracts in hand.

Btw, it continues to amaze me that F1, regulated by the august, above-reproach FIA, allows a team principal for one team to manage drivers on other, competing teams.
Can you imagine if Alex Ferguson were manager of John Terry and Michael Owen? The conflicts of interest are mind-boggling.
It's simply outrageous.

Hmm.

Incestuous would be the word of choice for me.

Makes me wonder why I watch it!

I did post a prediction somewhere, but I can't remember where and I cant remember where it was.

The Webber bit has come true, and the bit about Massa going to STR with F. engines was in it.

Doh!

Found it:

OK how about:

MS stays.
KR to Ferrari
Massa to Torro Rosso with Ferrari engines.
Webber to Red Bull with Renault engines.

Thing is, despite what they say, I cant see KR getting equal treatment.

That's for sure.

I say "outrageous" as well because there is meant to be a semblance of a fair competition.
That is why the FIA - at least in theory - forbids team orders.
It's why we fans - who are, although the entrants and other interested parties would love to ignore the fact, the ones who pay the freight for Mikey's Swiss mansion and Kimi's Enzo and Jenson's yacht and all the rest of the OTT self-indulgence - get involved so avidly. We presume that, at least in future, all the competitors are trying their absolute best to win. Except if they aren't.

We're none too happy when Maradona's handball changes the course of the World Cup, or when a Tour de France champion is EPO'd up to his eyeballs, or when Olympic 100 metres winners have ingested enough steroids to move a mountain.
It's no different with F1. We expect everyone to do his best. When one "billionaire" organ grinder is calling the tune for more than his fair share of monkeys, it starts to smell - and it wasn't that pleasantly aromatic to begin with.

Hi Flemke, from what you're saying, it sounds like you've worked in F1 too! I agree with you 100%... it's all manufactured and controlled. Alonso and Schumacher getting 2 second penalties for qualifying at the Hungarian GP... coincidence? I don't thinks so. Bernie knows that at Hungary, where overtaking is notoriously difficult, he needs to spice up the show. I wonder what he will do for Monza to keep us awake?

Massa does seem confident. What about Massa in the second McLaren seat next season?

Nicolas Todts boy in a Mclaren?

I can see the steam coming out of Rons ears now.

Which leads to another interesting question- how long will Big Ron be calling the shots at McLaren?

Maybe the political world of F1 is changing?

If Ron steps down it will be just that.
