In the interview he talked about the car lacking "in one area" but wouldn't say what. Since Honda and Renault are on the same tyres, he could only have meant the Honda motor (which i thought was one of the best) or aerodynamics/flexible wings. I'm assuming the latter...

In a later interview he talked about lacking straight line speed (and was also, to be fair, a bit more upbeat). Probably means either too little power or too much downforce needed for the corners.

They are lacking straightline speed, they were 14th & 17th through the speed trap in Turkey during qualifying, they were also 9th and 11th in the USA (longest full throttle section of GP track), they may not be down on power but lacking grip and sacrificing speed for more downforce, but some more power is probably an easier short term fix than making big car changes that could end up making things worse.

The simple fact of the matter is that during his time in F1 he has not had a winning package, whilst Ferrari, Renault and McLaren have been strong, which means that for most of the time he has had up to 6 superior cars in front of him.

Has anyone bothered to compare Schumacher v Barrichello at Ferrari and Button v Barrichello at Honda?

Button v Barrichello in 2006:

Average Qualifying 7.86 to 8.07
Front Row 3 to 0
Poles 1 to 0

Average Finish 5.90 to 7.82
Podiums 2 to 0
Wins 1 to 0
Points 36 to 22

Plus, in the 8 races where both Honda drivers have finished, Jenson leads 6 to 2.

Do the people who are highly critical of his performances actually know anything about his early career?... His record in karting is second to none.

He is without doubt a very skilled driver and with the right set of circumstances will undoubtedly fulfil his tremendous potential.

Having said all that, the words of Flavio Briatore (on replacing Button with Alonso) may come to haunt him for a very long time, "Jenson is a fine driver but there were too many contracts, too many things in the background."
