I heard a rumour today (from someone in motorsport) that a very famous (F1) racing driver is a full-blown alcoholic! Anyone think there could be any credence to this? I'm skeptical.... scratchchin

I won't say who, in deference to the name + shame rules!

The fitness levels that they need to sustain would surely mean that anyone suffering as such would be exceptionally obvious?!

Quite, and how could he dry out enough to drive almost every weekend? And pass the medical tests?

Did you hear it from Ron Dennis???

Is he still hacked off that Kimi Raikkonen's buggered off to Ferrari in a deal that was apparently signed well over a year ago???

Big Ron has been sending out these scandalous rumours abour KR for a while now. Do you remember the 'alleged' incident at the lap dancing bar in London - it never happened.

He was at my place for the whole night...

I'd say it's most likely to be the finn, what with the general attitude towards drunkeness in the country of his origin (as in "oo, i'm awake, let's get drunk."

That's up there with astrology, aromatherpy and fair play in F1 for believability. Child I'd accept, but wild?.

Then again, as stated, it might all be bitterness...

I've yet to meet a 'wild' Finn

I see what you mean. Quite revealing video. Thanks for the links.

But does he do anything other than get drunk? I mean, does Ozzy Osbourne have anything to worry about? Are bats safe around him? Is he likely to have a daughter who will make you groan everytime she comes on television?

It's a shame, though. Alcohol, or at least its abuse, has caused more careers to falter than lack of talent. He needs some good friends, it seems.

I suggest a visit to the Esplanade in Helsinki on May 1st next year - it might change your opinion.

Finnish Joke;
Hannu & Mika are leaving work,
"Hey Mika how about a drink?"
"Ok let's go to The Continental"
Three vodkas later
"So Mika how's things?"
"Look are we here to talk or are we here to drink?!" hehe

PS They may be taciturn, but having only recently come in from the forest they are still completely feral.

Don't know about F1 but Al Unser Jr had to stop racing for a while due to his addiction.

After he retired from this years race at Monaco instead of staying around the pits/team he made his way to his yacht whilst the race went on. I wonder if the youtube video is from then?

jesus... I didn't know about the may day celebrations when I lived there... and when I nipped into town on may 1st I had a massive shock... it is in a total state. vomit, spit, other bodily fluids, bottles, streamers, all absolutely everywhere.

Are you sure it is a current driver.

James Hunt might have qualified and in a different sport I heard Barry Sheene had two or three pints of Guiness before a race.

So KR is a normal 25 year old guy (with a lot of money) who likes to party with friends and enjoy himself. My friends have plenty of vids and pics of me in drunken situations but that doesn't mean I'm an alcoholic!

Fair play to him - he's rich, has a hot girlfriend and drives a Formula 1 car for a living. Rock on!

based on no factual background outside the car, but on his driving alone Ralf Schumacher would seem an obvious candidate.
