Famous alcoholic driver ?!?!

So KR is a normal 25 year old guy (with a lot of money) who likes to party with friends and enjoy himself. My friends have plenty of vids and pics of me in drunken situations but that doesn't mean I'm an alcoholic!
Fair play to him - he's rich, has a hot girlfriend and drives a Formula 1 car for a living. Rock on!

Jealousy will get you nowhere people...
The landlady of one of my local watering holes is from Finland.
She is a good shot too!
After something like 8 to 10 years after giving birth to her daughter, she decided to take up rifle shooting again. She returned to her old club, and there were only one or two people still there that remembered her. A new member looked at her target and commiserated to her "oh dear, looks like one lucky shot, then you missed completely with the other nine shots".... errr wrong... she'd not lost her touch as they recovered all 10 slugs from the trap behind the target.. one hole in the bullseye, 9 further shots through the same hole.
The moral of the story - if you see a drunken Fin with his/her rifle, don't upset them, it's unlikley that they'll miss!
Some of her relatives have come to visit over the years, and I can vouch for the "wild".
Once you get past the "outwardly boring mannerisms", there's a volcano inside waiting to get out! Man alive can they put it away!
If it is KR, then how does he pass the stringent FIA zero alcohol regulations without going cold turkey - which would seriously impair his driving abilities.
I would go for a former F1 driver as being the target of our affections.... And someone who doesn't race anymore.
Perhaps that's why a certain Brazillian former champ refuses to join the GP Masters?

You're right to be skeptical. Alchololism is a deeply debilitating affliction and not something that you can "turn off and on" (two family members and one good friend has and are suffering with it).
I very much doubt that any professional (and very possibly; ammateur) race driver in any championship would be able to compete without such a problem becoming very apparent very quickly.
Retired drivers are far more likley to go this route as a means to replace the high they get from competition.

Hmm, I miss the business trips I used to make to Finland, though my wallet and liver don't.
One of the guys I worked with never seemed to drink anything without alcohol in it - even coffee for his morning wake up period - and smoked about 80 cigs a day, maybe more if duty frees were available. I had known him for some time when I discovered he was a skydiver. I have never met anyone who was a less likely skydiver. I only learned this because one of his colleagues mentioned that Jukka had been part of a team of skydivers which had been the star turn at the opening of Finland's first (so I was told) nudist colony. It happened to be at or near his home town on the west coast. The skydivers, naturally, jumped naked.
Then there was the very young Finnish photocopier salesman who was sent to the Hanover Business Equipment Fair for 2 weeks and quickly found an even job partnering a stripper and her 2 candles at a sleazy bar. A 10 minute performance every hour for at least 5 hours a night (my colleagues reckoned).
I think for the most part those from the Northern climes who seem to use few words are probably saving their energy for other activities more important than chit chat.

There are many types of Alcholism.
Tony Adams could not touch a drink for a month, and during Euro 96 did just that. He was not interested in having a few beers after training, he just wanted to drink to get drunk.
If KR stopped drinking the weeekend before a race weekend then how would anyone notice? Alcholics are good at hiding things!

I used to work with Denise Adams (Tony's sister) so have a bit of an inside track on that one - which I will not be going into suffice to say a lot of what people think they know, they don't.
Alcholism is alcholism. What changes is the ability that different suffers have to control its effects in the eyes of others. I found out that a friend of ours had been an alcholic for about 2 years and it was a genuine shock with not even the tinniest of clues ever coming to the fore.
There's a big difference between playing footbal where the dangers are not particularly high and F1 where they are!
The other thing to consider is that an F1 driver is never out of an F1 or public view car for long.

Oooh, names dropper...Eric Clapton told me thats it's not good form to do that
I don't really believe whats being said about him, but I see no reason why a young guy can not drink heavily and, and then stop maybe 5 days before an event and drive at the highest level.
Yes F1 had more danger than playing football, but my analogy was to compare sportmen competing at the highest level.
He's only an achoholic if he admits it, until then he's just a young lad who enjoys a good party.

Blimey, "All Finns are boring" until......they are accused of being total party animals!?!
Williams seems to forget that if the Mercedes engines didn't lunch themselves so frequently Kimi would have been champion in 2003 & 2005. Last year his peers voted him driver of the year in front of Alonso, which would suggest he has been taking it seriously enough. I think it is fair to say that he has taken his foot of the pedal a bit this year when it was clear it would be a Scumsucker Vs. Alonso show, but with a Ferrari contract in his back pocket, which he was disciplined enough to keep quiet about I am not surprised.
Roll on 2007, Alonso, Raikkonen, Kovalainen, Button etc (shame Davidson hasn't got a seat). I for one will not miss MS or fat-boy for that matter.

As far as I'm aware he's going to be a Super Aguri driver next year, which might not be a bad thing considering they're likely to have this years works Honda to play with. Davidson's certainly proved pretty handy with it this year if the times are anything to go by!

To be fair, being drunk is not really all that wild. I've been drunk and I bet Cherrie Blair has as well. I was never wild. Paraletic, yes. As a kid, I fell down the stairs of a London Transport Routemaster and somersaulted into the road.
