I recall sid watkins breaking some ribs at the monaco gp a few years back. He wasn't driving, but it went straight on at the quick left before the swimming pool section (ralf schumacher crashed there in qualifying last year). Saw a picture of the damage in autosport but never seen any footage.

Think it was before a practise session.

it was crashed at monaco a few years go (late 90's) although that was on the test day. the saftey car and medical car drivers get a bit of time to practice themselves... I think the driver blamed it on th ecu suffering due to vibrations caused by the kerbs.... rolleyes

There's a reference in the second part of SW's autobiography. Apparently the kerbs triggered the fuel safety cut-off, so no power to keep the car on the correct line. Alex Ribero driving?

I marshall at the British GP and enjoy watching the F1 cars and vans hooning round the circuit. The sight of a Vito on its doorhandles round Club has to be seen to be believed...but the fastest and potentially the most unstable car has to be the ML55.

Best support vehicle this year was the luminous yellow ex Rockingham Landrover with a tuned Rover V8 in it - aerodynamics of a London bus but it sounded superb and the guy was clearly lapping just for the hell of it!

Some years back (lots) I was watching on Eurosport an F3 race in Germany (I think).

The safety car was leading the pack round. As it approached a hairpin, for some unknown reason the lead car overtook the pace car. The F3 car then out-braked the pace car into the hairpin, the pace car locked up and rear ended the F3 car

Never seen it since but what on earth was the F3 guy thinking?
