Pistonheads Race Tuscan

d_drinks said: Like B/wedge and JamesC I too have an allegiance to a particular race team (TopCats Racing, the dog’s kahooners of a team, by far and away the best team -www.topcatsracing.com for those that want a look ) with Rob we took the Rookie of the year award for last season, unfortunately neither the team or Rob is not running in Tuscans this year. It would be good to see more cars on the grid and if this project is able to help then, this is great, if Rob is able to get his ass off the sofa and into a race car again then he’d be able to pedal it to a definite top 5 finish.
As for the costs, though they seem high they are what it takes to get a car up and out there on a competitive basis, not sure though that £300 per race will be a cost many can afford/willing to stump up. The cost per month thing does sound like a good idea though…….
Well said!

It's also important to me to secure a capable driver. I've dipped in my pocket before to watch someone tool around at the back of the grid and then crash.

If we can establish the concept and credibility of the 'PistonHeads' car and perhaps gain some notoriety from the concept than future excursions may attract corporate sponsorship to make things cheaper.
29............... To get any type of additional sponsorship, we will not only require a driver that can mix it with the front runners, we need one that can win, that brings your choices of driver into very sharp focus, and since we would need to have a very expirenced Tuscan driver to keep the insurance down to an affordable level, only two or three come to mind.

Hello Moma's and Popa's.I hope you are all well, people are talking everywhere, about the possibility of you all becoming godfarthers and (godmothers)to a new family member. The "Pistonheads fighter pilot". Aparently the brief is to kick some (well you know)in the the bad boy cars.Show everyone that Speed Really Does Matter. Well I happen to know someone who would like to be part of the family.
He will take no prisoners
Leave the job clean with no prints
Has no previous criminal record, I think ?
Is an excellent getaway driver
Will be fully committed to the family
And likes to party hard when the job is completed,
all he really needs is the weapon!if you want him to sort the job and make you all proud.Give me a call

Jay nice to hear your around on pistonheads, do you remember when I gave you a free hand in that 4500 Yellow Chimaera at Bruntinthorpe in 2001, interesting use of the tyres, well I never knew till then that a Rover V8 Chimaer was faster than a Cerbera 4500 lightweight !!

Steve_T said: Sounds like a good one. Question is, is there a circuit which is good for spectators and not too dear to use for this sort of thing? Steve.
Most circuits are very expensive to run on esp given that you are not going to want a bunch of numpties on a track day getting in the way. Bedford is a good track and is generally well ran so the muppet are less likely to get in the way. Viewing isn't that great though that has to be said other that from the pit area. Consumables like tyres can be got from Dunlop at during a race weekend as they wouldn't need to be new slicks, a set of four discarded ones would be good enough
i'D Jump at the opportunity to help out at anything along what you decide to drag out of the melting pot, but i'd rather set up a direct debit of around say £50-100.00 per month, rather than jumping in £200.00a time, didnt read the whole thread so wasnt sure if someone had already suggested that !!
Ted/Rod if you go with a 'drive off' to sort out the driver for the car if it goes ahead etc. then have you thought about getting a main stream magazine involved? EVO are always at JP's Bedford Autodrome, so if you chose that venue, how's about inviting EVO along, give them a few laps in the car as well as behind the wheel, give the drivers, the championship a shout and get a few pics going, + they even offer a little bit of sponsorship?.... they are a sponsor on the N-GT Ferrari 360 might be worth a go esp as they seem to have a good relationship with the factory as well....... another thought to add to the many...
Perhaps TopGear would 'sponsor' Stig to be the driver as an item for their next series. Maybe for just a couple of races but it would be a good way of getting publicity - for both PistonHeads and TopGear - and might lead to other corporate sponsorship?
Just dreaming - sorry if BS.

What a bastard of a journey, 9 and 3/4 hours, Farnham in surrey to Croft in North Yorkshire, bloody traffic all up the M1 and the A1. Got back this evening in 4 hours, nothing on the roads. Great weekend, didn't rain, so nice dry racing, came 12th in the first race because I spun it at Tower, but had a great start in the second race, got 4 off the line and finished 6th, my best yet!!
Keep the idea's flowing, Ted and I will have a chat over the next day or so and should be able to bring you up to date, Got to go, too knackered to write anymore, begining to see double!! nite nite.
All these ideas of getting Evo or TopGear involved seem to neglect the point that they are actually in competition with Pistonheads.com, so not really the sort of place Ted would want to look. If people are thinking of getting more exposire for the project, I think you might find that Pistonheads is read by more people in a month than Evo and TopGear magazine put together. I used to subscribe to both magazines, but found I was reading them and getting bored with the fact that I'd read about their "scoops" (well, the interesting ones anyway) 2 weeks before on Pistonheads.
I'd go along with Ted's original suggestion. Keep it simple. Work out how much it'll cost to get a decent car and driver out for a race. Decide how many people you can cope with at a race weekend, and take it from there. If there are enough takers, go ahead. If not, stick it in the file with the other projects that "Could Have Been" and move on....
Just my 2 penneth.
James
PS. If you need a driver, because all of your other options have been involved in freak accidents (it could happen... in fact, it's a distinct possibility). Give me a call. I have my Nat A in my sweaty little hand
