I can't go along with your thinking on comparative readership:

Average issue readership (Millions)

AutoTrader 2.1
TopGear mag 1.5
MaxPower 1.4
What Car 1.3
Fast Car 0.5
Car 0.25
C&CC 0.2
EVO 0.05

Pistonheads membership 0.023 (current membership not 'average readers' - I don't know what proportion of members read Pistonheads say once a month.

I still think there's some ground to explore with the TopGear tv prog on having Stig (or 3 Stigs) as paying guest drivers to get the concept off the ground.

It was just an idea

edited to add source of readership info: Periodical Publishers Association 2000; except EVO mag: Mediaweek Feb 2002

That's not the figure to pick up on really as only about 1 in 10 readers of the site register. I think James was comparing circulation figures of the magazines with readership of PH. ~230,000 people a month read PH.

james said: All these ideas of getting Evo or TopGear involved seem to neglect the point that they are actually in competition with Pistonheads.com,

James not too sure about that not offence to this site, Ted or any of it' member's inc me !!! But this site can not be considered a competitor to EVO or TopGear mags, the mags give reviews of the new cars, this site is drivers, owners etc. talking about their cars and thoughts on things like racing. The idea of getting a mainstream mag involved is to raise the profile of a) this site, b) the driver of the new car - if all goes ahead etc c) the Tuscan series - this has to benefit all teams in the series not just the proposed new car.

That's how I would see it, I agree with the keep it simple approach but as an avenue of reaching a wider audience, gaining new PH'ers and promting the site and getting more companies advertising on it etc I still think it has it's merits - all IMHO of course !!
