ok so it looks a fair certainty that FA will no longer be at McLaren for '08 (or maybe sooner) so who gets to fill the seat?

I'd go for Nico Rosberg

Nico is a popular name going around. Or Webber maybe

Both would require a bit of cash to buy out the contracts already in place

Edit: You beat me to it on Nico

I'd love to see JB get a shot in a decent car. Would be nice to have an all-brit driver line up too

Where is FA going to go next?

Am I right in thinking that BMW were holding out for him up untill a few weeks ago?

Renault I would guess, but given the interview by Alonso's manager saying that Alonso is commited to Mclaren for next year, I wonder if Briatore has said no and so now he's trying to heal things at Mclaren rather than go to a mid field team or worse, have to sit out next year.

I'm not so sure he will leave. Since he's under contract I think RD should torture him by holding him to his contract and giving him an "unreliable" car for next season!

I can't believe Ron would ever deliberately produce an unreliable car - he is far too much a racer who lives to win, and for a team owner that means a 1-2 finish. To do that he needs the best car (which thye may well have this year), and the best drivers, of which Alonso is definitely one, and one of the few avaiable to McLaren in 2008.

Big Ron as always stated that it he wants two possible world champions in each of his cars. Now he hasn't always stuck to that, Brundle, Watson, Andretti and Johannsson for instance. But now after the hassles with Our Nige(tm), Hamburgler, Caveman Kimi and now the Pretty Boy, I'm willing to bet that if anybody comes in it will be as a strict number two to Our Lewis (tm).

Lets have a look at the current runners and riders;

Heidfeld: Good solid choice but might not want to come back to play second fiddle to Our Lewis (tm)especially as Big Ron once picked Caveman Kimi over him.

Rosberg: Frank could do with the money but unless he ditches his agent (Todts son) I very much doubt that he'll be Woking bound. After losing $100m I don't think I'd be wanting to put anymore money into the pockets of the family that just fcensoredd me.

Webber: Good in qualifying, seems to break the car a lot in the race. Difficult one.

Coulthard: The return of the flying chin? Stranger things have happened, depends on if he said anything nasty in the book (haven't read it yet.). If that's all clear, could be a straight swop with Red Bull, as he is very good with sponsors and one more year giving Our Lewis (tm) back up in an enviroment he likes before he joins ITV might not be as outlandish as it first appears.

Button: I reckon to be the rank outsider. He wouldn't want to play second fiddle to Our Lewis (tm) and loves all the trappings of being a racing driver so much, I don't think he's properly focused. Shame, everyone at Williams thought he was the new Messiah until Flav introduced him to the darkside.

Sutil: Bit left field but a lot of people think he's quick including Our Lewis (tm). And he would be very, very cheap which if you've just lost $100m is a good thing.

Parfett : Good and Mercs chosen son but no recent race experience in F1.

De La Rosa: hehehehe Will be out the door with his Spanish mate and probably doing that funny walk you do if someones shoved a laptop up your arse.

Now my personal favourite....

Davidson: Ok a bit left field but think about it. Quick, smart, very good with the media, hasn't said a bad thing about Super Aguri all year and thanks his team first when he does well, modest and British which would delight our media. Plus he would be cheap and Super Aguri need the money. I'm sure he would follow Our Lewis(tm) round for a couple of seasons, scoring the odd victory and picking up a nice pay check. I know I would.

My personal info is that the pretty boy is out the door and if Santander or Vodafone follow him Big Ron has the worlds favourite airline champing at the bit to join Team Lewis(tm).

P.S. I hadn't forgotten Alliot in my list of poor Mclaren number twos. When he guested for them in France in the Peugeot powered pile of pooh that was that years car, one team member was heard to remark.
"Alliot driving one of our cars, two years ago he'd have been lucky to drive the transporter,"hehehehehehe

I'm not saying he would, just be nice to give Alonso something real to moan about! Or to really treat him like a number 2!

Paffett hopefully, but that would mean a team lacking in experience

They said on the Quali that Rosberg had chosen to stay with BMW for next year. So it won't be him. Davidson is a good shout, but unlikely.

I think you will find that Rosberg currently drives for Williams actually, and they definitely aren't BMW!
