when did you tell us this, i had worked out that Wurz would be riding his luck with F1 seats from about 2001... averages test driver, never looked like he had a competitive edge and never gave the impression that in a fast car he could challenge the best. Like Schumacher R, Fisichella et al, how they got drives beyond their second year in F1 is beyond me. never got the better of Nico

Really nice guy, but simply not fast enough this year. Potentially a sportscar star if he goes that route.
True - his height has always worked against him and he has never given up, if i was in his position i would have given up and gone off to DTM/Sportscars a long time ago.so who's in? wurz is stronger than their japanese third driver (nakajima?) and i bet his feedback is invaluable to the team, he's just unfortunately not particularly strong in this years car whereas nico is showing his real talent and imo dragging the car further up the field than it should be
I think Wurz has actually done a pretty solid job. As already mentioned he has struggled with the qualifying format which has hampered him in the races.
This season the midfield is closer that it has been for many years with Williams, Renault, Red Bull, Toyota, Super Aguri and Honda all in the hunt for the small points. Starting towards the back of this group makes scoring points very difficult as they're all so similar in pace.
When he has got into a good position he has repeatedly made the most of it - scoring a podium which Nico hasn't managed yet.
I would say that Wurz's skills as a development driver is massively important to Williams at the moment - if they drop him from the race seat do they risk losing him completely?
Who knows, maybe Wurz will cope better next year when there is no traction control and setting up the car to general mechanical traction/grip is more important? That's if he gets the chance ofcourse...

I think wurz has done a good job next to an extremely talented rosberg.
However, his radio communications always seemed to second guess his race engineer (or whoever was at the other end) and it was a little different from the radio com. a la schumacher (I know you hate him). Wurz has a lot of experience but I would have expected him to be discussing car setup during a race and not conversations like this. RE - "Push alex push your faster" AW - "You don't think I should conserve the tires?" Separate incident, AW "I think (car in front) is on a two stopper". These are rough recollections. Other drivers would be discussing the handling of the car at the 3 sections of a corner and at different corners trying to figure out what would improve the car or simply getting on with trying to drive fast.
Nevertheless, I believe he is grateful for his ride.

There was definitely early promise - according to wikipedia - a 3rd and five 4ths from his first 12 races in a midfield Benetton Playlife.PiB said:

They discuss car handling in that sort of detail only during debriefs and while the car is sat in the garage between test runs. Not in the middle of a race! Comms during the race are usually pretty minimal and often pointless. yeah having listened to a lot of radio transmissions, the only set-up you can really do over the radio is changing front wing for the next set of tyres. all the diff / tc / engine push stuff etc is adjustable by the driver for every corner entry / exit and they know what needs to be done.
