What's the betting he can't find a decent seat for next year?, Massa wants to stay at Ferrari(and has the cobblers support), Raikonnens seat is safe now that he has "woken up", althogh he has said that it would be "interesting" to race FA in identical cars.

According to a redio aired interview, Alonso says he is under contract for next year and has been working continually with the team to win both this championship and the next, he has no desire to jump ship.....

He has no desire to jump ship because he knows that Mclaren are his best chance of another championship next year.

Most F1 drivers would sell their granny for that seat!

I suspect Alonso's just talking it up to try and make Ron take the decision (and pay him off) rather than him jumping.

Either that or Ron's on his way out at the end of the season, thats the only other scenario where I can see him staying.

The Brazilian press ran the same story a few days back, Massa going to Toyota and Alonso going to Ferrari. They have a good track record in F1, they were reporting what was going to happen to Mclaren 1 week before the hearing in Paris.

There has been dicussion about Ferrari (Philip Morris), buying out Alonso's contract, thus allowing McLaren to not pay any money to the FIA....RD may well want Alonso to leave to help Lewis Hamilton settle more but who then replaces Alonso?? Some people have mentioned Nico Rosberg, or Fisichella!!

Toyota could afford Massa, but he has a conract with ferrari and would not want to leave.

Either Alonso stays or sits out a year....unless Renault take him back for peanuts, or Toyota pay $$$$$.

Any team giving Alonso a ride next year (pending existing Contract) would need a strict "Arsehole" clause in his contract.

If you were a major sponsor would you want your name on car driven by a fella who could not be trusted and is not interested in the "Team"

Did anyone notice in today's post quali press conference Lewis played the normal party line "we" did this, "we" did that, "we" got pole etc.... FA said "we" did OK but "we" didn't put the car on pole...

Hmm interesting, actually love, you didn't put the car on pole "we" did put a car on pole.

I know picking linguistics from someone who speaks English as a second language is a bit unfair but it seemed to sum up FA attitude and I can't believe it's an attitude that goes down well with RD.

Why would Ferrari want Alonso? They have two very good drivers and whilst Alonso is good he has a serious attitude problem and I doubt he would fit in well at Ferrari.

Can only think that Alonso takes a year off in '08 - and lets things quieten down whilst he sorts out a new team contract...

Just struggling to see how anybody desperate enough for a key driver to win them the championship, with enough funds to pay him, would risk their - and their sponsor's - brands with his 'unpredictable' attitude & nature...

Saw that rumour somewhere else as well. Along with some Bernie quotes to the effect that the Stepneygate thing had been great for media interest and that some more controversy - anything would do especially a Senna/Prost moment - could only be a good thing.

One begins to wonder if all those involved with building the F1 brand are either marketing geniuses and top notch actors or are of an age during which they are all losing the plot.

Re:Alonso.

Did anyone else notice that, in the pole position PC, he didn't have his overalls 'buttoned' up.
That is not the McLaren way.
Seems to me that he, Alonso, is acting like a spoilt child.
If you are being paid a lot of money to drive a top F1 car then at least you could have the decency to act like an adult.

Re: Bernie & The Times article

1. Bernie loves any publicity for F1.

2. Bernie is well known for err how can I put this......well winding up journalists especially ones that should know better.

IMHO Bernie is one of the good guys, yes he has made mistakes but haven't we all.
