Holy moly, the Hamilton huggers are quite tetchy, almost religious like fervour here, is Hamilton a cult.

I'm just surprised you have such strong feelings about a person (I guess) you've never met.

Would you say that to his face?

To me he's a good driver in a good car. I don't care whether he's a nice bloke or not - his job is to be the best driver he can be. All top sportsmen need a measure of arrogance in their character and Hamilton handles his far better than those of our national sport, the so-called "beautiful game".

Hamilton's great!

It reminds the world that not only does the UK make the best race cars but also produces the best race drivers.

Call it defending your own... smile

The point is arrogance is entirely relative, isn't it? And calling someone that, or attacking their character, is always the last resort for someone who's been bettered by them and has nothing else to use.

I thought on-track personality is the only place it mattered? Oh yeah, I forget LH has been bettered FA there too... wink

YEE GODS Hamilton is the supreme diplomat.

What do you think Eddie Irvine , Jaques Villeneuve , or Gerhrad berger would have said in Hamiltons shoes.

my betting is that anyone of them would have openly described Alonso as a cry baby tosser.

In their more restrained times they might.

Excellent point.

That's said alot, I guess it depends, people on here say what they like about certain other drivers (presumably having never met them).
Most who have met Michael Schumacher say his a very nice grounded guy(including Murry walker), but peoples preconceptions won't let them believe this, finding it easier to stay in the crowd of the ignorant calling him an arrogant cheat.
Also most of the stuff said about Alonso are attacks on his character, but isn't that what you do when you can't fault his driving?
I don't think I have that stronger view on this, I did not start this thread, but when some of the less intelligent posters resort to abuse and baiting it does tend to escalate, I'll try not to go down to their level.

It is not mutually exclusive to be both a cheat and personable.

Many people seem to dislike Clarkson (for his attitude and writings), and yet some people who've met him say he's a nice guy.

I don't understand where people get arogance from when discussing Lewis Hamilton, I see a supremely confident young man, who has total faith in himself, and rightly so judging by his performances on track. I don't see him bragging of his ability, or acting as if he is the only driver on the track with the right to be there.
His driving style is aggressive for sure, but i haven't seen him run another driver off the track, to date he has left just enough room for his competitors who usually capitulate to him. His peers over the years have said that he is hard but fair and has humungous balls!!

Seconded.

However as you imply, the nation is wrong, you are right. I apologies. I will also have to remember to correct a mate who went to school with Hamilton who says he's a nice bloke.

I think that's what you do when he cheats and tries to blackmail his boss.

Is anyone else getting sick of Hamilton's whining?

Irrespective of whether what Alonso did re Stepneygate was right or wrong, Alonso (and Ron) is handling himself with great dignity in his comments to the press.

Hamilton just makes me want to cringe with his countless digs at Alonso and his "aren't I great" comments. It's as if he has some massive inferiority complex or something. These seem distinctly at odds with the equality between the drivers that McLaren promote.

One only has to look at any of the comments he has said on Pitpass or Planet F1 - some reent examples:

"I'd much rather it were Fernando in a Ferrari and me in a McLaren," the 22-year-old Brit said.

"And since what's gone on in the last few weeks they've realised who the real people are in the team and who they really should back."

Hamilton's petulence in the post race press conference when it was suggested that he was taking the blame for the incident with Kubica was also embarrassing to watch.

I am a long time Ferrari fan, but part of me is now wishing that Alonso will take the title and put this whippersnapper in his place!

Back in the day, my friends used to criticise my fondness of Eddie Irvine, who they thought was arrogant. Eddie was humourous, and most of his comments were said tongue in cheek, and yet lots of people disliked him because of his attitude.

I wonder what those same people's view of Hamilton will be in a few years time?

PS - Has anyone else tried the "Lewis Hamilton Drinking Game"? You must take a swig of your drink each time "Lewis Hamilton" is mentioned on the ITV F1 coverage. Trust me - you will only play it once ; )

I can't tell you how much i hate this stuff.

Lewis Hamilton is just the greatest thing to hit british motorsport for god knows how long, he's fabulously talented and its all come from hard work. Everyone who knows him seems to like him and his story is just fantastic. I find it impossible to believe that he is still leading the championship as i was convinced that his two main rivals had got up to speed, yet look at his performance in that last grand prix, and now here we are with two races left and he's got a 12 point lead. Astonishing.

And that overtaking move on Kimi in Italy, my god where did that come from? Haven't we all been told for years by countless drivers about how hard it is to overtake in F1, and yet Lewis has been doing it all bloody season! Outbraking another driver is supposewd to next to impssible due to the crazily short braking distances, and yet Lewis outbrakes a top driver from way back, so far back that it took everybody by surprise, not least the tv production company.

Lewis is just fantastic, he's just the very best thing, he's young, gifted and black and he has swept the sport away. I can't get enough of seeing him and i'm looking forward to years of seeing great racing from him. Its just such a shame that so many whinging Brits have to come out of the woodwork and moan about him.

EE, (what a shame to waste such a great name), you've revealed more about your own personality than you'll ever know. Shame on you.
