I am also a Scot & would love to see Hamilton win it - because he deserves to. I'd also love to see Button on the podium regularly.

Nope - I was over the moon when Jenson won last year, and I am a big fan of James Hunt, Nige, Davidson and Coulthard.

Are you another one of those Englishmen with a narrow minded view of Scots?
Not at all. Many of my mates are scottish....

I can't stand watching Hamilton getting interviewed, maybe though the person (ITV) asking the questions is as much to blame, I can almost see them bowing in front of him repeating "we are not worthy, we are not worthy"

Whilst watching yesterday, I found it totally refreshing that Hamilton was speaking his mind so freely. He is quite clearly someone who I respect, but also, for him to lambast Alonso so openly, kind of makes me feel we don't know the full story.

I suspect RD has said to LH, 'say what you like about him - I can't' scratchchin

More to it that we think? Who knows.

I was chuffed to bits that he won yesterday, he's british, he even took a glance around to see the Union Jack being hoisted whilst on the podium, and had an immense look of 'proud to be british' about him.

Yes, he's sailing close to the wind with some of his comments, but I do feel we're seeing a true no nonsense guy at work here.

Okay people are saying he's got the best car on the track, maybe, but still, he's outperforming (the table doesn't lie) the person who is considered the best driver in the world. No doubt he's benefitted from being team mate with FA though. Just don't forget, how good a talent this guy really is.

And finally, with respect to the coverage ITV give him.

If England were playing Germany, and Italy were playing France, who would you rather watch rolleyes sorry I forgot, we're all 'Ferrari' fans, so much for being british.

On a side note, I was reading the transcript of the Friday press conference over the weekend. A Toyota and Honda bigwig were both present, and considering they've both had pretty awful seasons, the journalists got to work with intelligent questions.

Then a certain Mr. Kravitz stood up for ITV and asked the Honda guy "Are you running the same livery next year?". Of all the insightful and interesting questions that could have been asked, this really wasn't one of them. What a muppet.

It seems that people are all to quick to whine about what hamilton says, yet celebrate schumacher for attempting stealling one F1 title from Hill and attempting to steal another for Villeneuve.....

Oh dear, some one else fallen into the trap of having a less that glowing opinion of young Mr Hamilton.

In this country of 'free' speech you can say anything you wish...
Except...

"Die infadels you will burn in fiery retribution"
"I like Ferrari"
"I dont like Lewis Hamilton much"

Say any of those things and you will have huge assumptions made about you, you will have some over the top comments made about you and your car, and you might possibly have members of Scientology follow you home.

Dont risk it.

My fave F1 driver ever... Damon Hill, a quiet hard working driver who worked hard to earn his spot. He didn't have it handed to him on a plate and never used his father's name to open doors. Oh, and he was a motorbike champ too. Respect!

Yes, and further respect for anyone who's won the F1 crown.

LH has worked damn hard to be where he is today, his Dad has worked damn hard to get him where he is today too. It's a will to win, combined with a talent.

I too support Button, and really hope his chances for next season get a massive boost, as shown yesterday, the wet is a great leveller of the playing field.

sounds like a case of another 'whining' ferrari fan to me.

tired of his openness about things? tired of his arrogance? tired of the 'fact' he had it all gifted to him?

so lets look back at michael schumacher shall we? one of the most arrogant F1 drivers ever. i believe his father owned a kart track, giving michael alot of kart time. whereas anthony hamilton worked his ass off for his son to have the best chance possible. then lewis worked his ass off to be the best racing driver he could be.

so we have two similar circumstances.
but as he's english, its a bad thing.
as he has beaten a 2 time world champion, its a bad thing.

my rant may not make much sense, but thats my point. its all a load of BS. lewis has worked for it and he has got what he has through more hard work.

Yeah, but he is still a tool.

His antics at the safety car restart yesterday are a perfect case in point. Imagine the outrage if Alonso had hit him (he was lucky he didn't with that "gamesmanship&quotwink.

I should think one of the harshest lessons LH learnt this year was just how ruthless World Champions are in F1. So if he now tells as he finds, how can you possibly begrudge him that? Whining? You must be off your head.
You ain't seen nothing yet.
I am impressed by Lewis's father. Comments from the Times, they're not off partying or celebrating after the simply awesome display in Japan. The Championships there to be won, so they'll get the full quota of sleep and get off to China first thing. LF had a problem wondering how he was getting blown off the last couple of events; father's answer? Go work it out with your engineers, get the adjustments required and work them. It should come to you, don't try too hard.
If there was one thing I always thought someone should say to Schumacher in his heyday, that was it; don't try so hard. On balance if you've prepared with the engineers as you should have, it will come to you.

Relative to who? Surely not no mates (Michael) Schumacher??

Virtually all successful drivers have what most people would consider an unpleasant edge, and I would wage that because he is a Brit and because of ITV we are seeing more of that than of any other driver. The coverage wasn't as intense last time we had a British champion, PR didn't have its grip so for all we know, they have always been tools.

I reckon it is refreshing to see a sportsman whose speech isn't totally dominated by spin doctors anyway. More to the point, it sounds like Alonso is unbearable anyway (remember his complaints at Renault last season), I think he might deserve the odd whinge.

Why do we knock British success? The guy's about to win F1 championship on his first season - total respect. What would I give for that amount of talent & opportunity - lots like most of you! People on this forum mention whinging, just go to your premiership football match this weekend and see proper childish behavour, yet we love them??
Come on, get behind a true British talent and support him winning this great F1 year.

What I can't stand are ITV's eulogys to Hamilton.

Next year ITV F1 will be sponsored by Vaseline.

For those of you that are british and whingeing you should be ashamed.

We may possibly see in a few days time something thats never happened in F1 before.
A rookie in his 1st year, in a car he has never driven in a season or race before winning the world championship.

You should all be immensely proud that this young man is flying the flag for the home of motorsport.

F1 is a ruthless world and I know that Lewis hasnt found it particularly easy. I enjoy his comments and every good driver has had the utter most beleif in themselves.
I hated schumacher with a passion, but i realised his talent and found his interviews interesting as the same with senna and there total self beleif to be the best.

Now i think Alonso at Ferrari would be ideal as it would be the 2 of them in different cars fighting it out once again. However thats seems more unlikely.

If the Maclaren car has been "doctored" to be the same as a ferrari then surely that means that the cars are the same and as Hamilton is winning the series then what does that say about his driving?

As a fellow Scot, my advise, after reading half your thread, would be to just go and sit on a very sharp stick and STFU........

Apologies for speaking my mind guys (a trait some of you admire in Hamilton), it's clear many of you don't feel the same way.

Looks like we'll have to agree to disagree.

And mojocvh, can you lend me your stick after you have removed it from yourself ; )
