Stunning lap from Lewis, quite something to pull that result out of the bag, Alonso keeping the expected McLaren place behind the Ferraris must have been all the sweeter. TBH I was expecting him to go balls-out this weekend, he can't afford to just pull two points back by playing the percentage game.

This way Lewis can let the Ferraris go and watch his mirrors but I don't think caution will be his style. After all it's why he's such a breath of fresh air.

Mentions as well to the other Brits joining in the party - Coulthard's superb best of the rest result and Button, just half an hour earlier staring down the barrel of a Q1-locked position and stealing a top ten slot - considering the conditions, possibly more impressive than his Fuji qualifying effort.

Lewis is probably light on fuel to ensure pole & avoid first corner "accidents" which would suit all of those around him!

Could be, although I get the feeling he pulled off something special. Having said that, run a bit lighter for track position and he only needs to beat Alonso out of the top 4. He can even afford to finish 4th if Alonso is only 3rd, so he can afford to lose out a little on strategy.

I think Lewis may be a bit lighter than Alonso, but given past form I cant imagine it being more than a lap or two. Given that he was only ~0.1s slower in Q3 than his fastest in either Q1 or Q2 (albeit on hard tyres for the first two) then I can't imagine he'd only have 10 laps of fuel in there to mean he was running on fumes for the end of Q3, so I think some of the difference may just be down to being "one of those laps".

I know what you mean, it is annoying when you're trying to avoid hearing but to be fair its the same with any sport and you just need to turn off if you hear any news bulletin about to start because Im not sure we can expect every media outlet on TV, radio and 'tinternet to avoid reporting it just because ITV haven't shown the repeat yet. The 6pm news always gives the football results even though Match of the Day isn't on until 10:30pm for example.

But c'mon guys, we all know that Lewis is only on pole because the team are favouring Lewis and sabotaging Alonso's car rolleyes You can bet that's what FA is going to be telling anyone who cares to listen...

It was an impressive drive. He was 4 tenths up by the end of the second sector.

They are predicting rain tomorrow, which might shake things up a bit. Button did very well today, and the rain suits him. We could well see some undpredictable results.

Well I did see Ron appearing from behind Alonso's car just before final qualifying zipping up his flies.

I see Vettel has made another visit to the stewards office. Just hours after overturning his 10 grid slot penalty for not looking where he was going in Japan he's been given a 5 grid slot penalty for not looking where he has been. He was accused of blocking and getting in the way of a car on a qualifying lap when he was on an out/in lap.

He was 12th but he'll now start 17th on the grid tomorrow.

I know there's been a lot of Alonso bashing on here recently and generally Ive refrained from adding to it too much but his latest comments, if true, made me laugh

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/63084

Supposedly referring to the stewards decision not to punish Hamilton for last week's safety car situation, he said "I'm not thinking of this championship anymore, it's been decided off the track,"

Nothing to do with the fact that he crashed out and scored no points then? biggrin

Lewis will be 3-4 laps lighter than Alonso, last thing he wants is to be taken out this race so a short first stint will solve this. Massa was also looking light to try and get P1.

Simply stunning lap by LH, what a driver.

Apologies in advance if I'm misinterpreting your post, and rolleyes, but what do you expect the local news to report - what happened two days ago?
If you had wanted to do, you could have listened on 5Live.
If you're going to blame someone, don't blame the local news, who are only doing their job. Blame ITV, who appear to have delayed the qualifying broadcast in order to broadcast The Hoobs.

Cheers.

Interesting to see RD punch the air when LH got pole.

Especially since the constructors title has already gone to Ferrari....

He's right though - it was decided off the track. It was decided in a wall.

I was very amused some years ago when a newsreader did the usual 'look away now if you don't want to know the match results' routine... before proceeding to read them out rolleyesbiggrin

Alonso is, once again, behaving like a petulant child. Perhaps he will in due course seek to blame someone else, or perhaps the team, for his unfortunate reverse-parking maneuver in the last race. He would have regained some lost respect by accepting that LH has, for the larger part, been more consistently quick over the season, and regrouped for a new title attempt next year.

No doubt FA would have expressed Ferrari-like sentiments had he won the WDC as a result of, or thanks to, Hamilton been penalised for the safety car allegations.

[k]

edit to add - FA now seeking to imply the team are slowing him down. Is he hoping that Mad Max will help him out by giving the team another kicking?

FA really is making himself look like an arse...an attack like that really is an attack on the guys on his side of the garage whereas in the past he's mainly accused RD of being anti-him. Pissing off the guys who prepare your car really isn't the best way to move forward.

Surely fuel decisions are something that are talked about between the team and the driver, each driver and his chief engineer then makes their own decision about how they will run and the right set up. Now we've been told (in the press and at the second tribunal) that FA is barely communicating within the team - maybe that's why he doesn't know what's going on?

Maybe he's being badly reported but it seems to me that he doesn't need RD to plant stories in the press that make him look bad.

All through qually the Ferraris were faster than both McLarens, then at the last attempt LH found an extra half second to leapfrog them. FA didn't lose 6 tenths, he never had them in the first place.
