LH is not really to blame at all... Maybe you should check your facts next time first...
So, he couldn't see his rear tyres, but under-steered off into the gravel. Maybe you should work out how cars work next time first... to continue in your interesting style

Thought Ron's comment was interesting, along the lines of: "we were only really racing Fernando". That was used as an excuse for the fannying about the team did in not bringing him in. Just doesn't make any sense to me becuase like another poster said LH only needed to secure some points to make things almost watertight for the title. Don't get me wrong, I love to see a drivers fight go down to the wire as much as anyone but when you've a chance to sew it up why gamble like that? Specially when drivers like Kubica were lapping seconds a lap faster than LH and FA was gaining on him on the same, less worn tyres! silly

This was covered pretty well in the 'Official China GP...' thread - most people seem to agree that he oversteered initially, then corrected a bit, then didn't do much else other than drive at the gravel.

I'm with you on that. Must say there seems to be a few such experts floating around General Motorsport these days!

FWIW yesterdays result was one of the few times Hamiltons inexperience has showed this year IMO. Neither Kimi nor Alonso drove so hard on the inters in the drying conditions (both having previous experience of such a scenario no doubt). That was his first mistake; he did'nt need to go so fast. And then staying out for so long on clearly dangerously worn tyres was a silly risk to take too. Perhaps McLaren team management were happy to play the percentages, perhaps not. Either way Hamilton should have come in.

Check your facts

Lewis could not see in his wingmirrors and it wasn't as if he could pull over on the hard shoulder, jump out and have a quick look???

You really think that's right? he would have been able to feel the lack of grip easy. I can feel my tires lose a few tenths on my racing machines.... I'd hope Lewis would not need his mirrors, it's just more bullshite aimed at the clueless.

Roll on 2008 with no TC :-)

It was being discussed on the internet and in Autosport the week that Ferrari introduced this year's car.
Perhaps you're referring to discussion on ITV?

Hamilton also shagged his tyres very quickly in the first session of the British GP. Maybe his loose driving style is hard on rear tyres.

Who was in the driving seat and could feel what the car was doing? Who had done the last god knows how many corners on the tyres as they got worse and worse? Who was in direct radio contact with team in the pits looking at the same pictures we were? At the end of the day he had adjusted his corner speed as the tyres got worse and worse on every other corner on the circuit but the one that caught him out was the entrance to the pit lane so was the corner he had only driven a few times in comparison to the rest of the circuit, he simply came in too hot for the grip that he had avaliable and didn't take into account that there was no avaliable run off just kitty litter for him to beach on. Yes the team have some blame but ultimately it was the guy behind the wheel that over cooked it. This in no way knocks Lewis Hamilton what he had done has been nothing short of miraculous but on this occasion he fooked up, every driver is expected to get it wrong now and again, they are after all human, I think it's one of only a few mistakes he's made all season but it does beg the question would a more experienced driver have made the same mistake?

Anyway my moan was about people who have only ever watched 2 grand prix' all of a sudden becoming experts on it.
Well said. It seems we're not allowed to criticise Hamilton any more, it's like those awful reality TV shows where a judge is boo-ed even if they make a minor negative comment.

A world champion must be the complete package. Relying on your team mate's setups and not being able to make calls on strategy are two areas where Hamilton has betrayed his inexperience this year (and why shouldn't he be inexperienced...it's his rookie year!). He's overcome the first (if the lack of communication between the two drivers is anything to go by), the second needs working on.

If a rookie wins the championship, he needs to do it on skill not luck, I for one don't want people thinking F1 is easy. Hamilton's most of the way there, I'm sure he'll prove in Brazil he's got that last few percent.

ITV, in the pub & at work.
Fair enough.

I don't know what they talk about at your place of work.

At your local, perhaps the orientation is not on motorsport.

ITV, as we know, is worthless. We were never going to hear about it there until the rest of the world had finished discussing it in great depth. In fact, I think there was a detailed analysis of the Ferrari '07 wheelbase and the new spec tyre in the "Hungarian Grand Prix Preview" article in Hello.

hahah i see your point... did not mean to sound so aggressive

But if you look at the two laps leading up to the pit stop, the second to last lap was not too bad.. he was losing time but could control it. The team needed to time to work out what tyres to go with and so kept him out for one last lap. It was this lap where the back started to fish tail all over the place... i expect they realised they made a mistake very quickly ! Then by the time he had done that lap the tyres were too far gone... I expect that it was not that he over cooked it into the pit lane, but that the pit lane was not as dry as the rest of the track. If you noticed it was understeer that sent him into the trap not from the back wheels.

What ever opinion you have LH has been incredible this season, not just driving but his off track attitude as well... England in the rugby and england in F1, going to be a good weekend !
