Please will people stop using titles like this. What's wrong with "Would Alonso go to Ferrari?".

Isn't BMW signed up to Heidfeld and Kubica? I would be amazed if either got demoted. It's got to be Renault, Toyota or Williams. Alonso has publicly declared though that Flavio (he didn't mention anyone else mind) has not contacted him.

Heidfeld came through the McLaren school of motoring, so a straight swop with Alonso would make quite a bit of sense. Would keep Merc happy too.

But don't forget the old addage about keeping your enemies closer...

With the amount of shite that Alonso's been throwing around, it seems that he really is trying quite hard to get himself ejected from the team. But if you were McLaren, would you really want to hand any of your rivals such a perceived advantage? There doesn't appear to be that many drivers on the market with a similar level of talent to replace him with.

Ralf excluded of course.... wink
Most of these contracts have an unwritten clause that a promising young driver may be dropped like a hot potato if a double world champion with a few million sponsorship dollars behind comes available.

Would Ron Dennis want a co-operative, McLaren friendly and talented German in their Mercedes powered car? Yes. And would he want to stick Alonso in a currently mid field BMW? Why not? Even if he started testing tomorrow it would be mid next year before they were challenging McLaren for race wins.

Finally, the very last thing McLaren want to see is Alonso in a Ferrari. I don't see that happening this year, but he is a double world champion, loads of talent and he's no where near retirement. He's going to be around next year in a competitive car, and the longer he's in limbo the more these possibilities get looked at.

The Piquet kid was pretty graceless yesterday.
Being interviewed before the race about how Hamilton had done this year, he suggested that many GP2 drivers would have done as well.
Even if it had been true, which seems highly unlikely, to say so just seemed like sour grapes from a kid who's enjoyed tremendous career advantages relative to Hamilton.
He takes after his father in so many ways....

It's the way of the media these days though, isn't it? An eye-grabbing headline that makes you think "WTF?!" and start reading, only for the reality of the article to reveal that the headline was basically a con.

Maybe you should raise your sword, say "BY THE POWER OF PISTONHEADS", transform into Moderator-Man and change the title? wink

Although if you could refrain from the skimpy leather outfit then that would be appreciated. biggrin

I suspect that Santander are locked into McLaren for another season contingent on Alonso staying there. It's difficult to imagine their sponsoring McLaren without him.
I thought that, but their "colourful" CEO was open in stating that he would continue to sponsor the team regardless of where Alonso went.

In fact Alonso is just about the only current F1 driver who can lift a team in this way. Proven fact.

You need to understand the way Renault is put together to apreciate why Alonso succeeded there. It is far less about him and far more about the team, their atmosphere and the way they work.

I think Mclaren will have more than enough sponsors at there door for next season considering the impact this season has had.Besides every man and his dog has been talking about F1 and like it or not its down to one person and that is Lewis Hamilton.

Surely Alonso cannot change his ways and we would have another season of his antics if he stayed at Mclaren. Get rid, hopefully to Ferrari to give them back the stolen data.

No, no, no. You've got it all wrong, just like I have. 0.05 has shown me the error of my ways because He knows so much more about motorsport than any of us, you included. "Proven fact".

Or he could just be an argumentative pillock.

Piquet Jr is the same age as Hamilton, and, as I said, he has grown up in vastly more privileged, sophisticated circumstances than Hamilton did. That advantage should manifest itself in public behaviour that shows at least a bit of graciousness, and a tad of recognition for what Hamilton achieved this year.
i don't know about eithers respective backgrounds so won't comment on that specifically, but do you honestly believe that those that come from a more privileged background are more appreciative of what they've got when they get it, than those that have had a tougher fight and come from nothing?
As a rule, no. I am bemused as to why you would think that I might have believed that.
On the other hand, there certainly are cases of individuals who were born lucky and who appreciate that fact.
Regardless of that, the fact IMO is that Piquet Junior acted like a fool yesterday. As I said, it's not a big deal, but it probably is an indication of the lad's immaturity and shallowness.
simply because you seemed a bit surprised at the things that piquet said or the way he acted, compared to hamiltons behaviour. or maybe you were just disappointed rather than surprised and i mis-read it. either way, like you said, no biggie smile
