With all this palaver about Louis, it got me wondering..

Has anyone ever won a F1 or Rally championship title without winning a single race?

Obviously unlikely, but statistically possible... scratchchin

Denny won twice that year - Monaco and Germany.

Not sure about F1 or Rallying but Martin Byford won the Clio Cup Championship this year without winning a single race!

A while back I had the pleasure of spending time with Denny's widow, Greeta, and giving her a ride in the car that was named after her husband's teammate.
She was a very down-to-earth, genuine person. It was hard to believe that her husband had been a World Champion, when one thought about today's prima donnas and all their pretensions.

LOL

One of my friends was Denny's race mechanic back in the 60's, he was something rather special in the big CanAm cars in particular, perfectly matched car and driver combination there, F1 cars were far too weedy by comparison.

We have a couple of the early McLaren CanAm cars in our stable, cars with real character.

No, it wasnt from his McLaren days. Fellow Kiwi too. Ian mainly worked for John Wyer at the time.

In 1958 Mike Hawthorn won only one Grand Prix (the French) to Stirling Moss' 4 (Argentina, Holland, Portugal, Morocco) and Tony Brooks' 3 (Germany, Belgium, Italy). Due to the peculiarities of the scoring system at that time and his greater consistency, Hawthorn took the title with Moss second (for the 4th year in a row...).

It is interesting that on the 3 circuits which presented the greatest driving challenge, Brooks - relatively unknown now - won each time.......
