How to solve F1's problems
Discussion
Yeah, that would be good.
There a problem which I can't see an answer to, though. If F1 wants to be the pinnacle of motorsport, they need to be fastest, right? But fastest means you can't really afford to have loss of traction. None of us want to see injury and deaths in F1, but I would suggest it's boring because it's so fast that it has to be safe. Not sure what the answer to that is.

I'm waiting for the next part of your message???It's supposed to be sports entertainment, If you went a supermarket two years ago and asked who came second in that years F1 championship ? you would get "don't Know" today everyone knows, because of LH, he's raised the profile of F1 He's actually sliding the rear of the car around corners, that entertaining he's defying the tecnology.
You can create that level of interest by lowering the level of technology, and bring back some sense of galdiatorial competion, and not who's got the most money for R&D, the best solicitor or who's warming their hands between MM butt cheeks
So if we are all honest was it more entaining watching the battle for 4th,5th & 6th last Sunday or watching Kimi.

Despite having given up a reasonably good career to go work for Leyton House March F1 twenty years ago, I haven't watched an F1 race for five or ten years now.
I'm all for lowering the level of technology, but that doesn't fit with how F1 advertises itself. That's the bit I can't find an answer to. But the people in charge don't need to, with TV rights, merchandising, and oil-rich countries lining their pockets. So I imagine it'll just go on as it is now.
Sadly, MotoGP is going the same way, more money, more electronics. But they still fall off, which proves they're really racing, I think.
Maybe there's a correlation between width of car, width of track, maximum acceleration & deceleration, max speed, cornering G, and viewer enjoyment? Any mathematicians out there want to try. We could call it "OB's Law".

Thing is... i really want to, i love the idea... but for some reason, i just never do, i can't be bothered. It's good, but somehow isn't appealing to me.Yet I watch F1 nearly all the races, though usually just the start and then flick back to it, only watched 1 whole complete race all season.
I'd love to see more of the Grand Prix Masters though! yeah baby!
What about bringing in the "boost" buttons that they have in A1, maybe 3 shots per race (admittedly don't have Sky so have never seen an A1 race and therefore don't know how effectual they are )
Could make it a little more interesting perhaps if they gave a 100hp advantage although you'd no doubt see the drivers taking it in turns to use them down the straights and the finishing orders would be restored to the usual status quo.
Hmmm, would be a lot easier if I was God as it would then rain for half the season - thats now the only time I look forward to an F1 race as it adds that element of unpredictability!!
Something has to be done though... that development freeze, what are they trying to do, kill the sport dead in the water?!?
ETA: Bring back turbos, no TC, wet race

Or add weapons, like in the PS game Wipeout?
Of course!!! Why don't those in charge think of these things. One heatseeker and you could take the choice to fire when there's only one car in front of you and get rid of him or fire at the first corner and take pot luck!! AAV said:

Just lots of experienced old grandpas racing glorified go-karts.
Now that was racing!
OK Ive just Wiki'd it...... 3 races so far...... feck i missed 2 of them
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Prix_Masters
Edited to say....... Just read Wiki some more......... its Fitipaldi not Lauda, and they have 650bhp, check the link!

The Grand Prix Masters has folded, so no chance of ever seeing the old greats behind the wheels again.
Me thinks that Bernie and Max didn't like the old pros showing us what real racing is about, wheel to wheel battles and big old cars on slicks. The three races I saw were fantastic and ran rings around current F1 races. The F1 Mafia soon put a stop to the Masters series, just as they have now with A1GP by forcing them to use Ferrari for the next 6 years!!
Good old FIA have a way of screwing everything up.
Just when the WRC was making in roads and building up a head of steam, they went and FECKED with the rules and that was that!
Shame we can't have an airplane fall out of the sky when Max, Bernie and the rest of the FIA crew are on-board...

Ordinary people who watch F1 don't know or care about driving skill. They just follow the media like sheep, pay their £150 or whatever to go to Silverstone (yuk!) and assume they're watching something interesting.
A lovely opinion you have of racing fans there OB.Gassing Station | General Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
