Moto GP 08...The theories thread
Discussion
Rossi has been let down by both Michelin and Yamaha this year and he will still try harder than ever to win next year.
The real stength of the Duke is the electronics. Casey "chav" Stoner went from crasher to Mr Faultless over last winter. The outright straight line advantage of the Duke has been closed down and if Casey can't just power away on the long straights like he did this year he'll crack. Cracks have appeared in the last few races.
He'll also have a much stronger team mate and will find it difficult to beat him.
My money is on Rossi, Marco, Danni and Casey to be at the front - in that order?
Hoppo to be the best of the rest.
off to Ladbrokes to spend the housekeeping....

I'm looking forward to see how the new boys do (Lorenzo & Dovizioso) - it's going to be a 250 reunion.
Casey complained last week that people weren't recognising his achievement in winning this year - I tend to agree in that he fell off less, however I don't think he had too much close competition in the machine stakes.
Maybe Michael Schumacher will get a wild card ride if he continues to improve at his current rate

Sausage-boy has got to realise that the new generation has arrived, and more coming next year - his day is over
so are you saying he hasn't got it anymore??
one again you are talking shit.
on an under performing bike that is far from the pick of the field and with shit tyres he almost came second again and would have save for not racing today
true ifs and buts count for nothing, but with what he had to ride, he again was the only one to give Stoner a race this season and you know it
you realy are a silly old hector
thats cobblers, dani has shown in the last threee races this season that he can take it to casey so it wasnt just rossi who could do it. dani has had real bad luck this season and when he has stayed on the track he has been fast enough to worry casey.so are you saying he hasn't got it anymore??

I think Stoner has got all the praise that he deserves, he rode very well, very quickly, took the wins and rightly so. What he didnt get was the amazement of people for battling it out, bashing fairings and crossing the line .002 seconds ahead of the next guy.Casey complained last week that people weren't recognising his achievement in winning this year - I tend to agree in that he fell off less, however I don't think he had too much close competition in the machine stakes.

He had the right tires, a very fast bike and rode it superbly.
He had the praise a champion deserves, he didn't get the praise a riding-god deserves, cos he hasn't reached that status.... yet?

Something Vale is acutely aware of is "the show".
IIRC, Doohan was never massively popular with his standard MO of checking out on the 2nd lap and winning races with 35/40 seconds in hand.
Whilst the rider that can do this is *clearly* head and shoulders above the others in terms of racepace, it just doesnt look fast because there is no one else in the picture bashing fairings.
And thats what we all pay to see really.

Rossi's public image has much more flair and personality, which makes for a better marketing tool (and will mean fireworks at Yamaha alongside the similar Lorenzo). Ultimately, I think Stoner could win 8 World Chamionships and he still wouldnt earn as much as Rossi did in 4, because he hasnt been as good at creating a phenomenen. Granted its early days yet, but people will have set their opinions about him by and large by now in anycase. People dont get that excited by out and out dominance. You can still win every race, just make it look like you might not! Thats where the Aussies have fallen down in GP racing I reckon.
Its is absolute folly though to suggest that Stoner cant race, bang fairings and battle with ANYONE. In terms of dealing with pressure of an on or off track battle, Stoner ranks among the best I reckon.
To those who continously say "but if they all rode REAL bikes", do you forget ALL the other racing these riders have done to get this far?
Add to that, the LCR Honda for example was no picnic, most of these riders have done their time on 250 GP bikes, guest rides on Superbikes for their manufacturer etc . These guys didnt get there by only being able to ride one sort of bike!
