Yep he's gone to Switzerland because he will be a tax exile.
I would too its a bigger country than Monaco.
Monaco is great if you like posing on a boat but as a lad like himself then skiing and mountain biking etc must seem far more attractive.
You aren't exactly exempt in switzerland the prices of everything day to day are ridiculous .

Would I let Gord Brown have 40% of my hard earned Millions...No he would only be criticised as a muppet if he did.

correct Mark - purely for tax reasons - though it's going to make UK testing and factory visits more difficult for a few years

He's only allowed 40 or so days in the UK in the first year moving up to 90 days after 3 years

He'd be better off going to Monaco - at least you can have a small apartment there and then pop over to Cap Ferrat without anyone noticing. And Switzerland likely to close that loophole in the near future

(can't remember the exact days - got a few years more before I have to jump ship wink

The prices in Switzerland used to be high now they seem cheap compared to the UK

He should have thought about "wanting to live a normal life" before he embarked on a career as a racing driver in the richest, most prestigious formula in motorsport.

No sympathy. Wish he'd just gone "I want more of my money, I'm off to a tax haven, you Gordon" and be done with it.

He could have been honest and given the real reason for leaving, that being that Britain has turned into a cesspit full of worthless layabout chavs with respect for nothing. Morons that beat people up if they get looked at the wrong way etc etc etc. Don´t blame him,I left 14 years ago and don´t regret it one bit!
So I guess now you will all rip into me and tell me what an unpatriotic TcensoredT I am but I don´t care

So true... frown but he already said that he always wanted to live in London so, of course, his money men will have advsied a move elsewhere

It seems to me that he hates his fans, completely opposite to Mansell who loved the fans.

Is that why he moved to the Isle of Man / Jersey ?

I remember Johnny Herbert walking round Monaco with some F1 journo or another and being quite upfront about the move being for tax which never seems to be the done thing.

Can't be easy being Lewis getting followed everywhere by press / fans and hassle all the time don't blame him for moving at all.

Eddie Irvine went to Monaco
David Coulthard went to Momaco
Mansell went to the Isle of Man.

Hamiltons money has just arrived quicker because he is so good but every F1 driver probably has Monaco as his lisyed residence.

Can quite see why he wants out. Setting out to be a racing driver is not the same thing as setting out to be a celebrity. For many, the latter is an unfortunate and unavoidable consequence of success, not something they court. To suggest the tax advantage is the only possible motivation for his move is ridiculous.

I'd like to live abroad and experience a difference culture for more than the usual 2 weeks of a holiday so I don't have a problem with it - from an image point of view it wasn't a smart move to do it so publicy.wink

Why announce it, why not just gradually slip into as Rossi did with living in London? Much less likely to p*ss of the "fans" or people with our beloved Island mentality. rolleyes

if it was for purely tax reasons he'd have gone to Monaco, zero tax, here he will be paying tax, granted not as much as the uk but in the region of 23%.

There are several f1 drivers based in Switzerland as they get to do altitude training, cheaper tax, and its nice and central in Europe, and yes he probably will be left alone.

I've no problem with the move to Switzerland, but he should have been honest for his reasons for going there. If he is so publicity shy, why is he granting exclusives to The Sun?

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article4...

However, on saying that I did skim that article for a mention of his usual "who would believe, last year I was in GP2 and now I am the second best driver in the world" chat and it isn't there, so perhaps he is learning humility after all. Or perhaps it is just an extract from a biography that was written before he lost to Kimi - you decide ; )

EDIT - oh yea of little faith! It IS in yesterday's Sun - courtesy of Planet-F1. This is quite an interesting spin on Lewis' usual quote - Murray Walker would be proud:

http://www.planet-f1.com/story/0,18954,3213_283310...

"I'm ranked No2 in the world and that's pretty good in the world.
