It seems to me that he hates his fans, completely opposite to Mansell who loved the fans.
Eddie Irvine went to MonacoDavid Coulthard went to Momaco
Mansell went to the Isle of Man.
Hamiltons money has just arrived quicker because he is so good but every F1 driver probably has Monaco as his lisyed residence.

Giving exclusives to the Sun suggest he is not publicity shy.
Also, why live in Switzerland if not for tax reasons.
I stand to be corrected though.
if it where for tax reasons then he'd have gone to monaco, no tax. Also, why live in Switzerland if not for tax reasons.
I stand to be corrected though.

Reading through thes thread, I can't imagine for one instant why he might want to try to distance himself from large swathes of the general public. You do have to ask what is wrong with people that they feel it is OK to critise the character of a person they do not know? What motivates people to wish to do that? Frankly, what's wrong with you? Didn't your mother hug you enough? Did your Dad say you were a useless little tick?

I get peed off with celebs wingeing about having to sign autographs and the like, don't mind the millions though.
Kerry Katona, Victoria Beckham... sorry those are the only two celebrities whose names I know - yeah, I think it's a bit crap when they complain since they have worked very hard to Become Famous.Lewis has worked very hard to become a professional sportsman, being famous is a by-product of that success rather than something to be a achieved in itself.
I think you have to imagine how odd it would be walking to the shops and every single person knowing who you are. I worked on a local radio station for a while and you get some proper nutters tuning in - while we were at a roadshow this bloke came up to me and said, "Hi Pete, I'm such and such.. blah blah blah" and pretty much followed me and the main presenter around for the rest of the morning. That was bloody weird and very uncomfortable - I can't begin to think what it would be like having people following you into the bog to ask for an autograph.
In this case, I've got a lot of sympathy for him. The other thing of course is, I couldn't care less where he lives or why, so long as the Union Flag is hoisted behind him on the podium, I'm happy!

Now THAT's a blast from the past!I know its bad form to laugh at your own jokes, but I cracked myself up with this. I thought the 'Updated Edition' bit at the bottom was the cherry on the cake. It's even making me laugh now.

He should have thought about "wanting to live a normal life" before he embarked on a career as a racing driver in the richest, most prestigious formula in motorsport.
No sympathy. Wish he'd just gone "I want more of my money, I'm off to a tax haven, you Gordon" and be done with it.
CJ, is that sarcasm? If not can I just say, he was 6 when he started out so I can't imagine being a celeb figured much then, also I doubt hateful magazines riding on this unfortunate wave of Z list celebrity even existed. His hero was Senna and that seems to be the era that inspired him, not the world of Jade ing GoodyNo sympathy. Wish he'd just gone "I want more of my money, I'm off to a tax haven, you Gordon" and be done with it.

Alonso and Schumacher both live within a 5 minute drive from my place in the next village up. A few other F1 stars past and present nearby too who I can't remember off the top of my head. I expect Lewis will be nearby too. Seems a popular place. Will report on this as I get news.
Don't belive the press rubbish. It's all tax tax tax...
ETS, others include: Coulthard now here not Monaco, Jean Alesi and Alain Prost are in the next town and Villeneuve is somewhere up in the mountains...

It's pretty offencive actually that he SAYS he's moving because of the British public. I'd guess that the attention isn't that bad, and I'm really sorry, but if you're going to get paid crazy cash for being in the public eye, you kind of have to put up with it.
Fact is, he's moving to Switzerland as it'll save him 10m quid a year or more, not because of kids at petrol stations. I might actually still respect him a little bit if he'd admit the obvious, were I an F1 driver I'd probably be off right away. Lying and blaming the fans though is low

He gets paid to drive a car, not be in the public eye, as said numerous times on this thread already if it was just about tax and money he would have gone to monaco.Fact is, he's moving to Switzerland as it'll save him 10m quid a year or more, not because of kids at petrol stations. In switzerland, yes he'll pay LESS tax, but will also be able to train at altitude, I guess he will be based in Geneva so he'll be 10 minutes from 3000m (ish) training all year, and yes he will be left alone.
Don't think LH gets paid anywhere near 10m let alone able to save 10m a year.
He's looking at getting up to about 100m a year (apparently) with endorsments, which would mean a saving of a load more!
Avoiding tax is plainly a sensible thing for him to do, it makes sense to save paying loads of tax. When I can, I avoid paying it (in a legal way) for example, I've just saved the VAT on my new Ipod by buying it at dixons on the way out of the country, but blaming it on the fans though?
He's paid to be in the public eye. Without the public there is no sponsorship, without that there's no F1

I seriously doubt he'll be getting anywhere near 100m a year, I wouldn't believe everything you read.Avoiding tax is plainly a sensible thing for him to do, it makes sense to save paying loads of tax.
