Perhaps more pertinent to McLaren, what's the scoop on the Spanish Sponsors...?

Interesting that he does not have to pay a penalty for breaking his contract...
That is possible, but anywhere does it say that?
He could already have another team lined up, with a payoff agreed from that team.
Or, Alonso could have agreed to pay McLaren for his release with his own funds.
Alternatively, McLaren could have a swap lined up with another team, and this could be the first act of that.

It may be a straight parting of the ways, with no compensation. In any case, I am confident that McLaren would not have let him go outright without something in hand for '08.

No I think he'd work for a Spanish mineral water manufacturer like Solan de Cabras rather than a French one.

no, really, shouldnt he have been sacked in the first place....?
The FIA promised that the McLaren drivers would not be penalised for giving evidence. The upshot was that McLaren couldn't do anything other than give Alonso an equal chance to Lewis. Alonso could have chosen to leave, or (as appears to have happened) they could mutually agree to part ways. Sacking him wasn't an option.

The press release does have a healthy dose of diplomacy about it but I think the basic facts are honest, neither party wanted the relationship to continue.

Hanging around for 7 years. I'd have thought he would have taken the hint by now.

I'd expect Mutua Madrileña might well move on because they are tigter to Alonsdo but Santander have larger aspirations, major investment in Germany in Auto Loans for example, and will like the McLaren partnership program. From a UK (Abbey) perspective they also will like Lewis and might fund some of the sponsorship from there.

Love to see Mika back
It's going to be a straight swap i think with Renault for Heikki Kovalainen
can't see Fisi going to Mclaren
Poor Fisi !

Alonso's manager Luis Garcia Abad is quoted as telling Diario As. "I can confirm that. He is free to join any other team next season."

I may have missed something (haven't read every comment in every thread over the weeks!) but is it likely that Pedro De La Rosa will also move on? From the email evidence that came out of the spygate hearing it was clear he was working very closely with Alonso without the teams knowledge....

If he does go it's another vacant position to be considered when the drivers merry go eventually stops.

I'd love to see Jense in the McLaren (and I'm Scottish - and don't like Hamilton ; )
