Yes, twice, in 1988 and 1989.

With Tony Pond winning in both of the races.

If anyone got some photos, please post them in here or contact me. smile

I was there in 86

my memory was of standing in the rain and seeing very little action.
A lot of people were up in the multi storey car parks or high rise buildings which surrounded the track to get a better view, all of which came at a premium of course,
i do recall there being a couple of large outdoor screens set up for people to watch.
But for me my main memory was of walking back to the car park after the race only to find my car had been nicked and then having to catch several buses to get home, I also remember reporting the theft to the birmingham police and being told i was by no means the only one to have suffered this fate.

Thank you very much for the YouTube link, it has been years since I have seen new BSP footage emerging.

I will contact the person who uploaded it and see if I can get more information about the 1988 and 1989 races.

Got I'm getting old. My dad took me when I was little, and watched from the hairpin on the banking infront of the big screen .... could it ever happen again?

Remember it?
We were in it!
Thundersports one year, I see the picture above, I guess of practice as the race was cancelled because of the deluge which you also see above which hit the SuperPrix itself.
And Porsches another.
One of the great racing occasions in the UK I think.
Great photos, most welcome.
Another good Superprix thread on 10/10th, Motor Sport History.

I was in the grandstand at the top of Belgrave Middleway from which that shot was taken that year.

If I remember it right part of the grandstand began to sink in the mud and had to be abandoned.

Lemanslegend, aswell as the ones I posted on page 1 I have a few more shots my old man took from previous Superprix. PM me if you'd like to use them, all he'd want for them is a credit on the website.

I was at the 1989 Superprix as my dad was racing there in the Tuscans. It was awesome, although I don't remember much of it as I was only a nipper.

Would be great to see it back for sure smile

Please keep them coming in as I would love to hear some stories (or even some new photos!) from you.

A shameless plug from me to remind you about a programme that will be broadcasted on BBC tonight:

BBC West Midlands will broadcast a small programme about the Birmingham Superprix as part of their Inside Out series.

It will be broadcasted on Friday 29th February at 7.30pm.

Channels: BBC 1 (in the West Midlands region, not sure how the other regions would be able to view it) and SKY channel 979.

Website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/insideout/westmidlands/ (the programme will be uploaded into there, perhaps in a few day's time.

I made a small contribution into the research of the BBC programme, I am not sure if my name will come up on the ending credits.

Did anyone watch the programme?

I thought it was very interesting and it did shed some new light into the political involvement.

I watched it as well but the inference I was picking up was that it was unlikely to return?

It is expensive to run a street racing event nowadays and it would require a new Road Race Bill to run it again.

Also people are becoming environmental friendly and perhaps the Birmingham City Council might worry about breaking their image of being environmental friendly?

Oh what the hell, just do it it on the streets!

Anyone else got any memories or photos from the Birmingham Superprix?
