Hello here,
I am currently making a website about the history of the Birmingham Superprix:
http://8w.forix.com/bsp.html
I thought this is a good place to look for people who actually went there themselves.
So could anyone remember their experiences at the Birmingham Superprix?
I presume you've spoken with David Lucas about this ?I am currently making a website about the history of the Birmingham Superprix:

It was great, went 2 years on the trot (although, were there only 2 years anyway?).
My childminder's boyfriend was a cameraman for ITV so we got a great view as well!
ETA - No, there obviously weren't just 2 years . . . I must have gone to the last 2 years!

I have been recommended to contact David Lucas but I never got his contact details, so at the moment I got no way of contacting him.
Remind me again, what is David Lucas' role with the BSP?

I am pleased to announce that I have written a book and worked in partnership with S.S Collins (of Autodrome fame) about the Birmingham Superprix:
It is ready for pre-order from Amazon and Waterstones websites.
There are more information about the book itself from Veloce Publishing:-

The Birmingham Superprix book is out now:
Have a look for a small preview of the book (look in the PDF icon)

Hopefully this will appeal to people who went to the street event and share some memories in this thread!

It is expensive to run a street racing event nowadays and it would require a new Road Race Bill to run it again.
Also people are becoming environmental friendly and perhaps the Birmingham City Council might worry about breaking their image of being environmental friendly?
Oh what the hell, just do it it on the streets!
Anyone else got any memories or photos from the Birmingham Superprix?
Yep, why would Birmingham Council want to put Birmingham on the map, just let it quietly decay like it has been for the last 25 years....Also people are becoming environmental friendly and perhaps the Birmingham City Council might worry about breaking their image of being environmental friendly?

So cool, could it ever happen again?
Sadly, unlikely. It is prohibited to organise road races on mainland Britain. To do so requires an exemption that has to be voted for in Parlament. The Superprix was heavily funded by Halfords who's chairman at the time was Dennis Thatcher who's missus just happened to be quite influencial in Westminster at the time. There are a few places that may fall outside of this. A London Grand Prix often rears its head and the roads around Buckingham Palace cited as a suitable location. Most of these roads are actually private (Crown Estate) so in theory would only need a nod from The Queen.
