You make my point for me Racefan. The drivers you have spoken to are all GTO/GT cup class, that's a different story, fine let them run 2,3,4,hours if they want to, you can run a golf for a week for the same cost of running a lister for a 1 hr race!!!, but it's not GT. Call it The British GTO/GT Cup series, and run it as an endurance race, but if you want to see real GT racing, then it's BIG, POWERFULL cars, 1 hr max, SPRINTING. Fast and all out, exciting to watch, mega to drive in, and worthy of top TV and sponsorship

p.s I pay the same sort of money for my Tuscan seat as the GTO / GT cup drivers pay for thier shared seats, and our races last circa 15 mins x2 races + 20 mins Qualifying + 30 mins testing. They get 2hrs testing, 2x warm ups, extra tests, and Qualifying plus a 75 min race. They do OK.

And yet PROPER GT Racing would be classified as something like FIA GT or ALMS. So that would be, what... 2 and a half, three hours avergae race, with a couple of 24 hour events thrown in?

GT racing isn't about sprint distances. All the famous sportscar races were endurance events. Mille Miglia, Le Mans, Daytona, Sebring, Targa Florio.

How can you say that people want to see big GT cars sprint for an hour? It's not endurance if it lasts for an hour. And yes, the drivers I have talked to are GTO Cup drivers, but the GTO/GT drivers from last year that I spoke to wanted more seat time. Why do you think a lot of them have moved onto FIA or ALMS?

I just don't get why someone would hand over a large wad of cash for less track time. And I mean race time, not just qualifying, testing etc. It' the competition aspect, not pounding round in circles testing.

PS: Tuscan 29, you drive int he Tuscan Championship. If you drove a GT car, are you telling me that you'd pay GT/GTO/GT Cup type budgets and want less seat time than you're currently getting in a Tuscan? I know I wouldn't. But if I was doing GT's I'd expect a certain amount of budget increase because of the series I would be in, whether it was British, FIA or ALMS. That's motorsport.

Well I guess we will just have to agree to disagree again!!!! I make a distinction between British GT and GT racing. In my book, British GT has been and should be a sprint rather then a endurance race series, where as FIA GT and the others are where you go for endurance racing, which will cost you a hell of a lot more, or you share the car with 3 other drivers, as is your want. Do we want to effectively restrict British GT to GTO and GT cup class cars, or should we look at the facts, listen to the teams that want to run full GT cars on a cost effective basis, and make it possible for them to compete on a competitive level. I think that the real motorsport fan would love to see this, 3 races in one, proper TV coverage, and real sponsorship opportunities , what's so bad with this concept???

When and if I move to GT from Tuscans, then on the present cost levels, it would cost me no more then I am paying at the moment, but I would get more seat time even with races @ 45/60 mins, so you are right to question the cost issue Racefan, and rest assured that there are not that many drivers that don't demand value for money.

You have now exhausted me on this subject, I've said my bit, agree or don't agree, it's of little real importance, life goes on, cars will race, pigs may fly, and I'm getting older by the minute. Home time!!!!

I think every round should be 12 hours and held at Cadwell Park

I agree, but the races would have to have a 30-minute break in the middle so the farmer could take his tractor around the cicuit to get access to his fields.

Hmmm, imagine, 30 GT cars barrelling into the botom of the mountain at Cadwell...mmmmm

Or, 3 rounds at Cadwell, 3 at Oulton, 3 at Donington. Now that would be a great series

Interesting points here. Why should GT racing be about endurance. A GT car is a Grand Tourer, ok, a big car capable of cross continent motoring. Doesn't mean you can't assemble a bunch of them for a balls out race.

I find shorter races far more exciting. I'd love to see Mosler/Saleen/Lister Storm/Cerbera Speed 12/Tuscan R/Ultima etc all go for it in a 20-30 minute race

i think the current length of British GT events is fine. GT/sprtscar racing has always been about endurance.

If you want endurance racing come over to the EERC. We have this season run a minimum of 120mins and a max of 500mins (8 1/2hrs!!) there are fair few 240mins races and next season will see a 24hr race at Silverstone.

You 4 classes based on engine size, with the class 1 cars inc. a few Marcos Mantis NGT cars and the like. Tracks range from Snetterton, Donnington, Brands, Oulton to European rounds - Nurbergring !!! great racing and track time for you time is almost unbeatable oh and Sky show the races on Sky Sports - gr8 or what

Leave the British GT panies to their 45min stint drives and come join the real Endurance series in the UK !!

Good to have a mixture of the two.
I find shorter races more exciting too but an endurance race can be a good day out.

I think we should keep the races as they are.

Well driving for 45mins not really more than a sprint is it, not enough time for the sweat to get into your eyes

PS - it was said tongue in cheek

Why do the events not get placed on PH events listing?

Go create some weather...
