A couple of questions, if I may?
  • How does insurance work here? If my car, say, falls off the ramps onto another car, who pays?
  • What sort of tools are available? Anything at all specialised?
And, finally, has anybody on here used this facility yet? Are you able to comment?

In general I think this is a truly excellent idea!

And of course there are plenty of other outfits doing the same thing. A couple discussed here in the midlands:

what an awesome idea! i replaced the engine in my car last year, and living in London the only place i could afford was a barn 100 miles away from my house. If this had been around at the time i would have taken a bay with lift and tools for a week.

I'll definately be using this in future for any other servicing.

Really? At £10 per hour, a bay for a week would be 7 * 24 * 10 = £1680. Err, why not just pay somebody to do it? Or am I missing something?!

Try clicking on the link, the rates are £250 a week no lift or £500 a week with lift.

Sorry, ok; I just saw "prices from £10 per hour" and assumed (wrongly!) that "from" indicated upward-only price reviews smile

Still, surely £500 for a week with a lift is still rather more expensive than paying somebody who knows what they're doing to change an engine, isn't it?

"Pit Start is UK's first fully equipped self service garage."

About Us
"Pit Start is Europe’s first self service garage."

How long has Pit Start been going out of interest? (couldn't see it on your about page)

Just that the founder of 'Which Magazine' started one 30 years ago due to their dissapointing findings of standards and treatment of motorists in the industry, it was originally Non profit (your prices are fair BTW) and they are still operating today.
