Best bet is to call John Reid at TVR if you're after a race car. He's the man with his finger on the pulse.

WARNING !

I've just spent 3 months trying to buy a cheap project Tuscan that was alledgedly 90% complete.

Having viewed it I found it was a bad copy with a dangerous chassis. I haven't seen such bad welding anywhere and they even ground the tubes on the underside to make it sit flat.

I'm an engineer but I think even anyone with common sense would be able to spot this is not quite right. However I can not keep quiet about this and wouldn't forgive myself if someone more naive than myself managed to get this on the road/track - its a death trap.

The front body shell is an ex-Henley TVR piece but I get the impression that the seller has just found odd bits from somewhere and is trying to pass them off as a dismantled race car.

The seller is close to Honiton near Exeter and has placed two adverts, see the following links.

www.findit.co.uk/cars/kitcar/projects/1004130.htm

www.fastroadandtrack.co.uk/classad/showcatindex.php?catid=1

I've alerted the two websites to this rogue trader and have had a response from one of them already. I wouldn't be surprised to see this appear on ebay though.

Be warned.

Well done that man, bad cars like this need exposing.

To my certain knowledge, there is no such thing as a cheap Tuscan, not one that is safe anyway!!!!!!! don't get involved on a tight budget, it won't work, leave it be until you can afford to buy a proper one. I've sold two Tuscan race cars in the last few months mainly because the cars I have or know about will be "good" one's, not hacked up old write off's, and as an Ex Tuscan Challenge driver/TVR dealer, I know a bit more then most.

If anyone on pistonheads is thinking of buying a Tuscan race car for race, track, or for conversion to road use, be it one of my cars or any others you may have heard of, and you want advice, then e-mail me, and I'll help you to check out it's history, if I can, don't go into it blindly, it's a bloody minefield.

I can only reinforce the sentiments here. Make sure you get people that know what they're doing to buy the car and parts (especially the engine!) for you and more importantly to put it together.

I'm having a road legal Tuscan built from scratch with the major parts such as chassis and body coming directly from Rod and the car being put together by Dougie, Wayne and Steve from Insane Racing. I've avoided lots of big bills because I used these guys e.g. make sure you get a warranty with the engine and make sure it is checked over before you take it.

By the time it is finished it will have taken almost a year and as Rod has said it isn't cheap (but it will certainly be worth it) and the sort of speeds you're going to be doing, it must be 100% safe so don't cut corners and be prepared to spend some money!

If anyone wants to discuss my 'lessons learnt' then contact me directly.

Rod, I'll be over to see you as soon as it's ready!

Can't wait for that first track day!

2 to 3 weeks away eh? He hasn't told me that but I'm due to speak to him later so I'll see what he says.

You'll be the first to see it and thanks again for all your help over the past 'few' months!

Rod,

Good news - the car is MOT'd and due to be sprayed the week after next. Still can't make my mind up on the colour! Hoping to have it ready at the end of April! Just in time for summer :driving
