The Hunter-Abbot crash was a big one for sure at Oulton, although not in the g50 cup. He was a lucky boy. Not insured either or so I heard. Yikes.

The irony of Newey sending draper to hospital after a race one crash with severe whiplash is barely mentioned after a turn one incident sent the barwell g50 into the barriers at 90mph.

Whilst the making of the incident clearly wasn't his fault as mentioned elsewhere he could of done more to avoid rolling back into the middle of the track. He only locked the brakes up a nano second before the hit if you watch it. In those circumstances clubman drivers can, and do have more awareness than that about what there car is doing in a spin. Newey is definately a capable driver.

Watched the crash live on telly and i did think it was a bit silly of Newey to have a half spin (ok, that wasnt his fault) but then just release the brakes and roll backwards right out into the middle of the track infront of the rest of the grid travelling at warp factor 9.........
He is braking as he rolls backwards. The front wheels are locked.
The front wheels don't lock until his car is almost sideways on to the track. He wasn't giving it the full brakes, because his rear wheels were still turning right up to the impact.

My first reaction on seeing the replay was to assume Newey was trying to get the front of the car back round in the right direction so he could re-join, not realising another car was so close. I can understand why he ended up where he did, but IMHO he could have avoided it by NOT trying to make a rapid recovery. And yes, I know: Try telling that to any race driver in the heat of the moment...

Spot on....he was largely at fault for the actual impact. Could of should of done more.

If you did your research there is a tie in to F1 team owner, but other end of the grid. smile
