My wife works for record breakers and the agreement states clearly that all sponsorship funds are paid direct to the registered charity. How can that be a scam?

I am also doing the challenge, I have been in lots of papers and met the F1 training team. I would recommend them to anyone.

I am even more suspicious now...1 post and O day menbership.

I feel absolutely gutted .

I was so excited by the challenge....and I just know it's a scam now.
Thank goodness for my ex that managed to knock some sense into me.....and hopefully I've stopped other Phers from sending cheques....or they can get them cancelled if they ring their bank tomorrow.

I am truly gobsmacked by all of this. It's been a massise emotional roller coaster ride. So excited Wednesday when it all kicked into gear....and I'm just totally stunned now.

Well I do not really know what to say. If this is a scam then I am not only gutted but incredibly angry as my local paper were due to come to my house next week so I will look like a prized idiot when I ring them to say I was done...if anyone hears anything please let me know.
God damn, and I was so excited

I shall post more when I've spoken to the organisers.

It's entirely possible that it's legit, but there are aspects to it that I'd like explained before I back it further.

More info tomorrow hopefully.

To redress the balance somewhat, here's a press report of one of the other ventures:

Ok, I have spoken to Gary at great length and my concerns have been addressed.

For reasons I won't go into Gary has used two names, which was one of my biggest concerns. He he has also laid out the reasons for the Amazing Adventures company being closed down. RecordBreakers is being run by him on a sole trader basis.

The £200 is requested beforehand to ensure that people are serious about taking part and don't blow out on the day. A photographer is sent to the day so there are costs that need to be covered.

Payment is made via the charity. Two cheques are required - one to Blind Sport UK and one to Record Breakers to cover their costs. Both are collected via the charity.

I have spoken to the charity, confirmed that the charity is legit and that they are fully aware of the venture.

The item has attracted other press interest - AutoExpress have covered it for example and we should see coverage from various other press outlets as the thing ramps up. A journo from the Sunday Times is one of the participants apparently.

At the end of the day, if this was a scam it would be a very high profile one! The level of detail described to me also gives me assurance that the record attempt has been planned with considerable thought.

Safe to go ahead, I'd say.

I'm just waiting on a copy of the paperwork that Gary sends to potential participants.

Obviously I'd still recommend reading all the small print carefully yourselves to see if it's viable from a personal perspective but I believe that all the plans are in place to run this event and to ensure that the charity gets what's due to them.

Ok, I've seen the paperwork and all looks good to me. It includes a contract between British Blind Sport and RecordBreakers. It takes the form of a standard contract supplied by the Institute of Fundraising.

All looks good. Have fun ladies!

OI!!!

I was offline yesterday and couldnt particpate in this...but my other half has spoken to Gary a lot now and doesnt have any concerns. Also, having received the paperwork as expected, and been through it fairly carefully, it looks fine to me

thanks for all the extra work Ted - it does seem a shame we've all got so cynical, but then scamming is getting so much more advanced!
