I dropped into your showroom last year and had a chat with you about your Laguna - nice to see it's coming along and looks great. I wouldn't mind another look when it's finished.
Always welcome. The graphics are due to be done this week, but then he said that last week!Andy, yes it is, although time marches on, and I've had 2 years now. Here she is as was.
it lived in my mates front room, with 7 other cars. (big house) fantastic car... Renault paid for everything back in 2004 for my mate to bring the car to Goodwood festival of speed. the car runs but only 80% of its power is available as Williams will not release the data to program the engine management system.. very original!!

There are at least 2 Mini's in existance as far as i recall - the original car from the 1978 season & a second that was built for the 1979 season if my memory serves me correctly.
I dont know for sure which one is in private hands & which one remains in the Patrick Collection. I can find out as due to personal connections with the Patrick family i have access to the archives in the museum where the Mini is stored along with the Rover V8.
I have seen the privately owned car being demo'd however i dont know which car it is so i will endeavour to find out.
Its David Boswell who ownes the car I have pictured, Richard Longman maintains it and drives it.. only 2 years ago Richard found and purchased one of his Datapost Minis, he restored it to original spec and livery, originally Alan Curnow drove it.. I think 1978 ish..There are at least 2 Mini's in existance as far as i recall - the original car from the 1978 season & a second that was built for the 1979 season if my memory serves me correctly.

Hamerite. Great pictures, thanks. Slightly different story than I previously understood though. I was led to believe it was rebuilt by Rob West out of the 1998 DC Cook car, which in turn was the 1997 Championship winning car for Menu? After the rebuild, it was sold, presumably to your friend, who then ran it up the hill at Goodwood before shipping it off to NZ.
I eagerly await any clarifications, Supertouring knows a thing or two about this stuff!
All in all, there aren't too many Lagunas lying around. There is one retained by Williams in Nescafe colours in their museum. There are 3 for sale currently in various places around the UK, plus your mates car in NZ. Having spoken to Jonathon Williams at WGP, after Renault pulled the plug on the Touring Car budget at the end of 1999, everything went into the landfill, as they only had a month or so before having to either vacate the building the project was housed in, or renew the lease! The only cars that survived the project were the two that were sold several years ago (which subsequently turned up in Serbia in rainbow colours) and the museum one. Absolutely everything else binned.... Amazing. The only reason mine survived was that it was supplied to DC Cook as the showcar to your mates.

wow.. small world.... yes you are right about the car going up the hill.. Miles and his Dad Gavin, (owners of the said Laguna) they first drove it, up the hill.. it is a beast, even at 80% of its potential ;-) takes 30 minuits to pre heat all the liqids befor firing it up.. fantastic build! if you PM me with an email address.. will send you loads of detail pictures of the car.. Miles also ownes the sister car to the Datapost 16i which is here in the UK. as well as a original Metro 6R4.. AND numerous other exotic cars.. all in the front room!!

When Williams were running the Lagunas they had to have eight (IIRC) showcars built and they did not have the bandwidth to do so, so the showcars were built by another team (well known in Touring Cars and Historics) - I hope people haven't bought any of these showcars thinking they were proper Williams-built racers!!
An old Ford BTCC Promo 1985...

Hope the whole idea finds it`s feet & kicks off.

I see where you're going with that! This one is chassis 94/02. Built by MCT and run by GB Motorsport for Renault UK in 1994. It was then passed over to Williams when they got the gig, who then used it for testing and evaluation purposes before producing their own version, which was only ready a few days before the start of the 1995 season. It was then retired and put into showcar service. How do I know this? Believe it or not, I had a guy looking around it in my showroom, who appeared very clued up on it. When I said that he knew his stuff, he told me he should - he built it!
Fortunately continue to own the ex Win Percy Hughes of Beaconsfield car, still in its original works colours, whould be nice to have it sitting beside the GT86 at its launch

"We believe a lot of the genuine race cars still exist, sitting in garages, but they're not being brought out en masse as there isn't a series catering exclusively for them," says MLR's Duncan Wiltshire. "We hope to change all that.
Do you mean like this ?
Its a 1980/81 TE71 Toyota Corolla 1.6GT.
The car was rebuilt to be a replica of the winning Toyota-GB / Hughes of Beaconsfield Touring Car as driven by Win Percy in the 1982 championship, and raced in the CSCC Group 1 series in 1994 (when it was the overall winner) and in 1995.
I bought it approx 12 months ago, it has its homologation papers and is complete and untouched. I have been wondering what to do with it....might know now
