F1 would perk up if they had contol tyres, and made the one-shot qualifying in order of the drivers championship standing. ie. Schumacher qualifying first. This would surely give an advantage to the slower cars and send the quicker cars further back on the grid. Must make for more overtaking and entertainment. FIA could encourage use of wider circuits though.

The only bit I found interesting was the start where Trulli said and came flying thru to the front
GO RENO!!!!
That and the twat running down the strat grid with a sign. Was very disappointed that none of the marshalls gave him a good kicking when they tackled him.

That's gonna be the last F1 race I stay up until 2am to watch. Of course as soon as I miss one, it'll be an exciting race. I think I'll just tape it and watch it the next morning, prolly on FF.

did anyone count how many times James Allen said the word " interesting".?I actually turnede it off at the halfway point as it was pretty much a forgone conclution in my opinion.Shame really, especially if its right that the teams spend 1 billion euros on engines per year....and still can't make it entertaining.

It's a sad state of affairs when doing the washing-up is more interesting than watching the F1.

At least MotoGP and SBK are on next weekend......

All of the commentating team except Brundle & maybe Louise Goodman need sacking especially Jim F***ing Rosentahl whose interest in F1 seems minimal - send him back to do bloody football which he tries to talk about as much as possible anyway.

Did anyone see that appalling time filler last year when some bimbo interviewed some dodgy looking hairdresser because he watched F1 on TV? Embarassing! Having scarcely watched it since I am treated to interviewers interviewing each other & Brundle standing about 1 ft from Blundell (& looking rather uncomfortable I thought) whilst interviewing each other about the track.

I know I could watch from 1 min before the race til 1min after finish (with the sound off) but they must be able to do better than this.

.....and another thing.....

All cloning work should be permitted & encouraged so the commentating dream team (IMHO) of Hunt & Walker can be reunited.

Not quite all the overtaking was in the pits. There was a 3 second flash of young Mr. Button overtaking from 14th to 13th position.

I was watching F1 and Louise Goodman was interviewing a team principle during the race. "Its very difficult to pass in Spain, the only real opportunity is with a good pit-stop strategy". Nuff aid - I flipped to BBC2 to see Kagayamy take Reynolds on the penultimate corner of the first race - I kept watching...brilliant.

Now that was awesome - the look and colour of the team boss' face!...

The second race was more of the same too, roll on next weekend - WSB and, better IMHO, MotoGP.

The weird thing is, because F1 is so dull, I feel compeled to watch it, just in case it's interesting.

The last thing I want is to miss an exciting race while I sit in the garden.

I'll always watch it - and it will get better. It's gone through predictable patches before but eventually the status quo begins to change.

They should have an engine size limit, and a weight limit... and leave them to it!

With braking zones less than 50 metres, there is just no space or time left in which the driver can set up an outbraking manoeuver, the classic way to overtake.

Another suggestion - rear wheel, single disk (steel of course) braking only (as on a go-kart).

Of course, cars can't run close together either because of turbulent airflow from the car in front affecting the downforce being generated through their front wing. Solution - remove the front wing.

The technical problems on modern F1 centres on over efficient barking systems and over efficient aerodynamics. Any soultions to the overtaking problems has to centre on amending these factors.

The psychological problem of overtaking is another matter. This centres on the abundance of pit stops. The only way to encorage drivers to THINK about overtaking on the tracks is to discourage them from contemplating the far less risky option of overtaking in a pitstop. The solution - reduce or ban pit stops (except for technical problems). The latter issue looks like it is being addressed although I do wish they got rid of refueling.

Agreed.

Hmmm....

eric mc on earlier thread said:

I've always advocated the complete removal of wings.

That should bring back a little drifting, tyresmoke and slipstreaming

eric mc on earlier thread said:

The idea of 800 bhp Formula Ford cars somehow appeals to me.

Now if we put these together I think I may just start watching 'live' again rather than just videoing all F1 and zapping the boring bits (aka 95%)

Bernie... are you listening???

Some of what I say is rather tongue in cheek.

As I've said previously, any reduction in the technology or capability of F1 cars would have a knock on effect on lesser grades of racing. All the feeder series up to F1 would have to adjust to (say) a low downforce or wingless F1. Also, the FIA will not want rival series (IRL/Champ Cars/GTs etc) being perceived to be superior in any way to F1.

It is actually a very difficult set of variables to try and tweak. It really is difficult to "uninvent" technical or scientific knowledge.
