Was Inchnadamph Lodge B & B formerly a hotel? may have been this.

Inchdamph is the only big (imposing) building between Lochinver and Ullapool, and it is on the left (heading east) and set back from the road. I can't imagine it could be anywhere else on that road.

If you are staying up there Inverlodge by Lochinver is very nice (built since the 1970s), if somewhat expensive. We stay there 3 or 4 times a year as it allows dogs and isn't on the NC500! (ie quiet and has rooms available at short notice).

Trying to find the name of a hotel, (maybe closed) on the A837 Lochinver to Ullapool. If memory serves me right, a large imposing building on the left side of the road, on the side a hill.
However, that was in 1974, so some recollection maybe a bit sketchy, also not far out of Lochiver, maybe under one hours drive.
as said that sounds like the Inchnadamph Hotel.
I don't think the Lodge was ever a hotel.

The only other place that it could be is the Oykel Bridge Hotel, but that is about 12 miles further east of the junction/turn off to Ullapool.
There's nowhere else between there and Ullapool that is/was a hotel, as far as I can remember.

Located on opposite sides of the River Traligill.*

The Lodge is hostel acommodation.
Good value if you have a no-frills limited budget.

 * If you fancy working up an appetite, take a walk up river to the Traligill Caves.

A few miles east of Inchnadamph , just past Loch Borralan , on LH side was the Altnacealgach Lodge which ..errr.. burned down in unexplained circumstances in the 80s I think.

Any fans of the now sadly demised Tomdoun Hotel )past Loch Garry, en route to Kinlochhourn ? It was the perfect highland hotel - friendly , lively , shabby , whippet and labs sleeping outside your room and sherry coloured water from the burn .Miles from anywhere and a wonderful view . Loved it - last time I looked it was still boarded up .

bowbowbow

Those caves are decent, if you are feeling brave you can climb through into the first chamber, and if the weather is decent you can then follow the river down and into more chambers downstream - but your exit is easily blocked by rising water.

Also the river that is empty for stretches, and then flowing for stretches..

I think it sold eventually, and an application made to convert it into a private house.

That was part of the appeal, even (or especially? ) in a Seven with not much ground clearance ...

One more week and then I'll be around here for a week! - wave to a blue focus anyone!

(No real set plans, there is a spot somewhere near Oykel Bridge where you are supposed to get an amazing sunset view, a 1 year old who enjoys swimming, and a Baelach that I have not driven in too long!)

Remember the Bealach is closed between 18:30 and 07:30 each day at the moment.

yes

"There's also the unasumming but excellent Alt Inn in Assynt. This was the view outside as the sun set after dinner during our stay.
The iconic moutains of Assynt looked fantastic silhouetted against that dramatic sunset."

That's the spot, thank you! Now you have told me the spot, I remember the road, but I've only ever driven it west to east.

Amazing photo! Your knowledge of those roads is impressive, particularly due to where you live!

We are planning a trip on the 27th of July. Maybe not the best time but the only one available due to work and family constraints. Three days in total leaving Lancaster early doors and aiming to head through Glencoe then upto Kylesku for the night. We have done the applecross section before. Day two follow the coast road to tongue and then down through the centre to Lairg and spend the night in Portmahomack. Day 3 up early and head for Grantown on Spey and down the Old military road on the way home. Any must see or advice from locals would be much appreciated. We will be in a bright orange Ultima and a Black V12 Vantage. Can’t wait.

Thanks we are really looking forward to it. Any other tips for us? Do you think our schedule looks sensible and what route would you suggest. Any information would be appreciated from someone who knows the roads.
