Stunning footage, would be fantastic in any car.Far too little Scottish action though. A couple of very familiar locations.
@2.15 the bridge on the A82 on the way to Glencoe.
(where I nearly got taken out by a impatient tk heading east who decided it was a good place to overtake an artic).
@2.18 one of my favourite roads, the superb Scotsburgring (north side).

That really makes me want to take my Elise back up to Scotland, maybe via some Alpine passes I'm actually back up there tomorrow, flying this time though and collecting a VW Up! hire car for a few days. Might take my GoPro with me - the car is gonna be breathtaking on those roads

Heading to Scotland for the first time mid-feb. Plan on driving many of the roads in this thread. Will they be accessible and safe at this time of year for an mx5 or a 3 series? I.e both poor in snow etc.
Will I still be able to blast it round these roads at that time of year?
Blast, yep. Will be almost* empty, but obviously not in the villages and be REALLY careful as BIG deer will be on the roads until the snow on the tops goes, plus they are terminally stupid. If you're on single track roads you don't know, there WILL be a post van* coming round that blind corner ahead, and there is nowhere to go except head on.Will I still be able to blast it round these roads at that time of year?
Feb is usually snow free at sea level on the west coast, but at about 1500 ft you may well find some. MUCH more snow in the east.

Never underestimate the speed of a Post Office van - especially a Highland one! They've a lot of mileage to cover and they don't generally hang about..
Back in '94 I was in a mate's Saab 99 turbo on the single track road to Badrallach and he was giving it the berries. Until he saw a PO van in his mirror Glad, as Mr C suggests, that he was going the same direction as us.
As for deer, yes they do find tarmac very attractive on winter nights. A Christmas drive to Aultbea along the A832 (before upgrade) was more like something out of a George A Romero movie as the daft buggers either lay in the road or lurched into your path. And remember they're like bikers: if you have a close call with one, be sure that his mate(s) will be following right behind (speaking as an Isle of Man resident, and in no way a bike hater )
But that all said, winter can be a magical time to see the Highlands. The drive down the A87 through Kintail and onto Glencoe on a cloudless winter night with a full moon and snow all around will live long in the memory, just epic.
Go for it!!

Watch for deer. Bad points are high ground, and low ground where they can cross from one glan to the next or cross a water course. In other words anywhere. Once the snow is away from the tops the deer tend to be away from most of the roads though on the likes of the A82 over Rannoch Moor you can expect deer most of the year.

As a biker......zig zagging through a herd of deer on the A82 at sub 20mph because they wouldn't move out the way is odd & those antlers look huge from a few feet away.

Mind you, on the right road (plenty of choice) and in the right conditions (less common) the rewards will be much greater than for us mere car drivers. Any time I saw a biker in Wester Ross in winter I was reminded of the guy from Gumball rally
I can never watch this:

too many times.

Taken from the top of the bank above the road. Looking towards Loch Broom.
Corrieschalloch Gorge just out of shot to the right.
