Unless you have a pressing need to tick off an item on a bucket list, JoG is a waste of time and fuel. imo
If you must go there leave asap and take the dead end road up to the lighthouse at Duncansby Head.
Park up and walk over the head for the view of the magnificent cliffs and sea stacks.
Otherwise, from Tongue take the A836 to Lairg. I can recommend the Pier cafe for lunch or tea.
Then continue to Bonar Bridge: stay on the A836 across the bridge over the Kyle of Sutherland.
After that the B9176 over The Struie to the A9 near Alness.
Tongue to Altnaharra if you need encouragement Unless you have a pressing need to tick off an item on a bucket list, JoG is a waste of time and fuel. imo

On that run, quite good. It has the same system that is in land/rangerover/f-pace in that when it detects slip, it brakes the wheel so stopping spinning. Something that we're not smart or quick enough to do manually. With winter tyres and AWD, I would imagine it would be very good. Not much ground clearance though....

yea but i'd have thought under certain conditions that might mean it just doesn't let the wheels move so you're basically stuck.Blown2CV said:

Don't forget that filling stations don't stay open late.
I got caught out last September at Ullapool.
It shut at 8pm and I got there 3 minutes too late...
No thanks to a tt in a campervan.
I caught him up about 200 yards past this point.

He resolutely refused to let me pass for the entire 10 miles to Kinlochewe.
I was running on fumes from Ullapool to Lochinver where I was staying.
Put a splash of 95RON in next morning to get me back to Ullapool where I brimmed the tank.
It was then that I worked out how close I had been to running out the previous day.
My calculations showed there could only have been c.1 litre left when I reached Lochinver.
Far too close for comfort...

Thanks guys, very helpful.
...and well to remember, many on the west coast are closed on Sunday. It’s a God thing.Whilst we’re here, I posted this pic on another thread, but thought it worth repeating.

I found when I filled up here I didn't have a full tank as one of the pumps stops you on a small slope (the TVR is a bugger to fill though so it might be fine with other cars).Red Devil said:

I took a jerry can with me to cover any station running out of super unleaded or arriving late.It was then that I worked out how close I had been to running out the previous day.

Does anyone know of the whereabouts of super unleaded in the Highlands? Searching suggests Ullapool and Inverness but am hoping there is more than that available?
Red Devil missed one up in ThursoBridgend Filling Station https://goo.gl/maps/GREr1Pdu5932
On the east coast you don't need to travel all the way to Inverness for fuel. You should be able to get super unleaded at these petrol stations:
Tesco Superstore Dingwall https://goo.gl/maps/eDxZSWQ8WJF2
Tesco Superstore Tain https://goo.gl/maps/ERn8u1izzsL2
I am not 100% sure about the one in Tain but have used Dingwall.
