I don't think the track from Allnabad to the A838 Loch Merkland is really a motorable road? (The Google Street View car made it up there...)
It was a walker not a car that did that track on streetview.
yes - http://www.kingmountaineering.co.uk/central-suther...

Though the track certainly looks like you could drive along it, maybe not in a low sports car though!
You might be OK as far as Gobersguinach Lodge. 4x4 country after that though.

You may have trouble exiting at the Loch Merkland end...

So after literally falling 30 metres off a mountain exactly two months ago yesterday signed off ok to drive by the consultants, quite a result given in A&E I was looking at losing my right arm below my elbow and told unlikely to weight bare on my right leg and lucky to be here at all.

Spoke to my employers and GP and both recommended I take a bit more time off to recouperate' so haven't driven for two months so want to revisit Scotland off the cuff, so heading up Tuesday return Thursday. I live in Penrith so heading into the Borders first roads I know well.

Basically looking for something new and not heading up to far, suggestions for roads and places. Last time I went Edinburgh to Skye to Kylesku to Tongue to Tomintoul to Edinburgh on the main roads.

Last time I visited Applecross I got caught in a snow storm and followed a snow plough so thinking of revisiting?

Are the roads still busy and do you think I will need to book accommodation?

TIA

Which hill did you fall off? We've had about 10 deaths on Liathach since I've lived here, so glad you're on the mend.

Roads are starting to get quiet now, but still fairly busy between 11 am and 4 pm. I'd def book accommodation - think you'll find the Applecross Inn is full.

Here's links to some B&Bs around here (Shieldaig) http://www.stevecarter.com/ansh/ansh7.htm

This was sango sands last sunday, Stunning beach along with a few other pics. We have just come back from doing the NC500 last weekend absolutely loved it !
I think we picked a good weekend as it was the last of the school holidays so most families were back home so the roads were pretty quite. We did the applecross around 5pm on Friday evening and was really quite had a meal at the applecross inn which was nice, fairly busy in there but worth a stop.

Amazing trip from Sheffield up the west side round the top and back down the east side with a run through the cairnegorms and the old military road on the way home

Thanks

amazing car but is it not quite limiting on the roads up there? Unsurfaced/gravel roads a no go etc.

Nice to see one that isn't orange!

As for limiting, well there are certainly some roads that would cause damage, but I've lived here with these without ever grounding:

Ha... I write music to pay the bills, photography just pays for the fuel.

Which gravel/unsurfaced roads are you thinking of?

Also, it's a shame you didn't tell these guys not to bother with the limited roads.

I've been round the Highlands numerous times in very low cars, you just need to anticipate some of high speed depressions. That's the only real issue. The LT also has a skid plate to protect the CF front lip 👍
I had my 650 round the Highlands 4 times
I love it, especially when it's just out side tourist season 👌😎

for fks sake i am sure some of you knew exactly the type of roads i was on about. The quality of the roads is regularly mentioned on here. I was up in May and there were plenty of roads that would have been very hard to negotiate with a low car. Maybe you think I am talking about the main roads or the mainland or something - i am not.

Calm your panties
Which unsurfaced / gravel roads are you referring to?

The opening shot in the first vid is the Quiraing on Skye.
Our group went that way (Uig to Staffin) in April this year.
If you've got anything low, avoid: it's in a shocking state.

At least that was the feedback I got back at the hotel at the end of the day.
I had heard it was pretty dire and had already decided I didn't fancy it.
Went the long way round top of the island on the A855 instead.

I have to say the roads on the East side in the Cairngorms and Borders are better fast driving roads but lacks the spectacular scenery of the West. Another fab trip done.
