NIMBYism?

There are 8 ICU beds in the Highlands, we could do without importing extra potential users of those beds thanks :-)

Edit to add: I live in Onich.

The supermarkets in Ft William have been hit hard by the panic too, unfortunately. There are rumours of white vans arriving from the central belt and stripping the shelves. Anyway, no pasta, rice, chicken, flour, yeast, canned goods etc in any of the supermarkets, M&S had a small amount of ready meals left yesterday morning and seems to generally have a little more stock than Tesco Metro or Morrisons. Lidl and Aldi have been stripped the same as the bigger shops. The big Tesco in Oban has also been pretty much stripped of most stuff.

All the cafes, restaurants and pubs are closed, some are offering take away service with a limited choice of meals, pretty much all of them are card payments only, no cash. All the bigger campsites/caravan sites are closing or have closed already.

I find it extraordinary Behaviour tbh, almost verging on the nimbyish.
I’ve toured the Highlands and Islands in Motorhome’s for a few years in the spring time. It quite easy to not cross another soul for days at a time whilst carrying enough food to see you through. With planning the only thing you need is fuel and water, even then automated (unmanned) petrol stations can be had, so not even getting close to the locals then.
However that all said and given the current situation I won’t be going this spring. Might give it a go in the autumn weather permitting.
Nimbyism?

....UK government advice = no uneccesary travel. Scottish government advice = please don't travel to Highlands and Islands. Local businesses = sorry we're shut, we'd appreciate it if you'd stay away for the time being. NC500 organisation = probably best to stay away.

Still the passing places and parking areas are stuffed with motor homes and caravans.

It's not fking nimbyism that's the problem, it's the "I'm alright Jack" brigade

Calm down chaps, I was responding to the report locals were putting notices up and telling people to go home.
I don’t condone what others are doing but find it equally extraordinary anyone would find it necessary to add their own effort to a governments edict. It’s akin to me popping into my local park or street and admonishing anyone in a group....
I also said I would normally go in the spring but won’t this year because of the current issue.
Stay safe.

Look on the bright side, the midges won’t have their normal feast this year so the population may decline which bodes well for a midge free return in 2021....

If so that is shocking. Nice holiday and one of the no doubt few a year and you then stay away from the Rabbks as you’ve shipped them to Loch Ness.
That's a pretty desperate cry for attention there. laugh

Well it's like going back 25 years here. Roads are completely empty (for a sunny Spring Sunday).

Shame I can't bring the Riley to add realism, next year hopefully!

The two places that are suitable park in Portskerra have both been closed by the villagers. There is no access to either the harbour or the slipway now. It is quite staggering that the caravan and motorhome club are encouraging their members to get away. Money grabbing bds don’t give a flying fk about anyone but themselves.

Today's the day we should have been leaving Chesterfield for a two week tour of the Highlands in our '63 Riley One-Point-Five. I've just watched the lunchtime weather forecast for the coming week - snow!

I don't know whether to feel disappointed or grateful that we're in lock down...

Originally we were planning to go skiing in Italy last week, but cancelled that in favour of a week in a remote Scottish cottage. But that was cancelled too!

So we just stayed at home and drank too much.

I've a new T6 camper sitting outside with which I'd planned to tour the Highlands this coming month.

Suppose I should be thankful that I only have a smokers cough, and not 'tother.

Be careful out there folks and stay safe.

Was out cycling on and around NC500 and it’s very quiet, take away the virus but leave the roads free of all the wannabe racers!

Season is finished it’s spring now you’ll not get any more usable snow in 2019/20 season

We're discussing snow and driving the NC500 (or at least I was when mentioned this week's weather forecast). Today I should have been in Glencoe on four wheels, not two skis.
