BTW, if you were in a silver grey S4 saloon, then we passed each other. (Me in a blue Jag).
Ah - unfortunately my garage on here is me clinging onto my youth, I have a rather boring grey A4 diesel avant now
smile kind of you to keep an eye out!

If what we have just battled our way through in Inverness and Nairn is any indication the Highlands are in for a busy weekend!

Traffic Scotland website has some live cameras. Mainly trunk roads though.
I live between Glencoe and Ft William. It’s been very busy all week and extremely busy today. Loads of caravans and motorhomes mostly heading north. A82 was blocked by a smash at Glencoe for a few hours yesterday afternoon.

Interesting to hear. Is there any way to monitor approx traffic levels online? Any live webcams or traffic data that's easy to check?

I almost set off myself, at lunch time, for a 48 hour meander, as the weather was looking perfect. But decided it was likely bad timing.
No clue - and I suppose for balance I should say I don’t have a reference point for Friday afternoons on the A96/A9. The caravans and motorhomes are all heading north though, we are heading the other way.

Hired motorhomes in the highlands are a liability - people who aren’t used to driving large vehicles driving them on single track roads they aren’t used to, recipe for disaster. One of them gave me no choice but to leave a bit of single track this morning between Kinlochewe and Torridon, by just continuing straight at me on a reasonably well sighted straight part.

Would you say its busier for this time of year with RVs /caravans / coaches than other previous years (obv not including last year)? We're doing a 5 day tour in 3 weeks time and hope the roads, particularly in the north, are not jammed. In 5 days in July last year we saw only one coach and hardly any RVs caravans etc. & all roads were very quiet apart from the major cities.

Drove 17 miles to Lochcarron at 08:20 this morning. Didn't see a car. Drove back at 09:20 and saw about 40 cars/motorhomes. It's not about where, but when. smile

Definitely much busier than usual for May. The a82 was still busy into the evening last night, which is unusual.

Sadly the whole West Coast is going to ruined for a while for those who like it for its remote feel. It's just another big Lake District last year and this.

If your lazy and just want to sit in your car but there must be places that require a bit of effort to walk to that'll still be quiet ?

Plenty. Hundreds of thousands in fact. But you have to get there, often for many miles on single track roads. There's the rub.

No idea what it's like to stay at but the food is lovely. My parents are quite close to there and we go out for dinner there when I'm visiting smile

According to one of the local Facebook pages, a McLaren has fallen victim to one of the many pot holes up here. Be careful if you’re on low profile tyres folks.

Went up last Tuesday came back Thursday evening, didn’t seem busy then but noticed more traffic heading North than when I came up Tuesday. This trip based myself on Skye and enjoyed very quiet roads, but this trip was about exploring the Cuillins.

Heading upto Scotland today. The M6 was horrendous. However, I found some great roads just off the M74.
The A702, B7040 and the B740, back and forth across the Lowther Hills. To be honest as driving roads they are as good as anything further North. Just about perfection.....
