Exactly that. three abreast on a single track with half a dozen cars behind and they don't pull in at a passing place. I just don't get it. They've all turned up in cars so it can't be a car hate thing.
It’s mental, it’s like red lights, seems some rules or common courtesy don’t apply to them (and I ride too but refuse to ride in groups as they just seem to ignore other road users but expect everyone else to treat them with respect).

if you're ever on Lewis, there is a small trailer doing amazing wood fired pizza... basically in the middle of nowhere, parked up.

https://www.crustlikethat.co.uk/

Everyone that we saw go past it looked like they went oooooo pizza and then did first available U-turn and came back! the haggis and black pudding one was fantastic...

The Inn at Applecross is heaving... though they do have the outdoor fish and chip van.

Roads are reasonably busy. Talking to our postie yesterday he said, 'I don't mind the motorhomes it's the cyclists that piss me off'.
Why aren't cyclists forced to have insurance when on the road ?

Not unusual. That's why I started going to the other place. Quieter and more relaxing. smile
It helps somewhat that my trips are in spring and autumn when much of the madding crowds have yet to arrive or have bcensoredd off home.
No idea at the moment when I'll be back. frown

Done this run last Monday. Never seen so many cyclists on the roads especially on the road from Ullapool to Kinlochewe. Mostly in groups of three with the odd single cyclist. Also seen what looked like a drop tank on wheels holding up the traffic south of Ullapool.

The CEO of a top ten UK company (no names) was kicked out of the local hotel because he was being so rude to staff. Sent packing in his Bentley. hehe

Just a heads up for people enjoying the highlands. We have been surface dressing stretches of road throughout Caithness over the past few weeks. Take care and watch out for loose chippings just waiting to bugger up your paintwork and crack your windscreens.

Good shout. We could do with a PH map showing routes that are due to be or have recently been surface dressed. One Network used to be a good resource but they stopped providing details of road works, so you’re second guessing what local councils are up to.

Talking of which: "Highland Council Roads Department will be undertaking road repairs through Glen Torridon over the above two nights. Work will commence at 5pm on both Thursday 1 July and Friday 2 July. This could potentially lead to delays for traffic using the glen".

just a quickie... why is gravel used as dressing? It always seems slippy, messy, ineffective... is it just an economic saving or something? By the way this is not just a Scotland thing...

I've wondered why gravel for years. But locally in Warks the Highways folk seem to use either smaller size chips or are more successful in removing the leftovers as for the past few years I have not noticed any of the usual sounds on the underbody when driving over these sites.

Because its cheaper then real re-surfacing.

That said, it does do a better job of sealing the surface from water ingress than the current crp of resurfacing materials, so look on it as a blessing in disguise.

It's been pretty much dry and sunny here for 7 weeks. This weekend it'll rain, and the midges will arrive!

One of my fave road views... taken this morning.

Hardly surprising that Highland road infrastructure with single track and passing places is not suitable for an influx to people looking to 'enjoy' the roads.

Much as it always has been.

I recall travelling up to Aultbea to visit family as a youngster which invariably involved getting picked up by a family member in Inverness. Even back in the late 80s / early 90s being stuck behind a tourist was a lesson in frustration.

There is a certain irony in those complaining that Highland roads are too busy when they themselves are contributing to the congestion.

It's been 9 yrs since I last visited and TBH I'm loathe to travel up.
