Obvious to mention, not so romantic, but there is a bridge!
Yep, used it a few times but fancy arriving the old-fashioned way then leaving via the bridge. Never had the 550 on Skye, it's always been one of the dailies so looking forward to it
The ferry is such a lovely way to arrive at Skye. And the A832 'Road is the Isles' is a cracker.
I did a Scottish tour in 2008 and went to Skye on the ferry, did the A380 and left using the bridge.

I still remember what a great drive it was. Really need to go back there!

I reckon you and plenty must have both consumed too much Talisker while on the island. rofl
The A380 couldn't be much further away from Skye. smile - https://www.sabre-roads.org.uk/wiki/index.php?titl...

I remember doing it the other way - ferry to Mallaig and being first off the ferry and having a pretty much empty road all the way down to Fort William. I was "only" in an MX-5, but it stands out as one of my favourite drives ever.

From earlier on the same trip:

I loved that road even in a Santa Fe, I'll have to take my bike up there some day.

Probably my fave driving road in the UK Used to use it every time I drove up from England. Last time I did it I saw one car in 25 miles.

yes - Mine was April 2019. Late April/September are best times to go imo.

I'm taking no chances, I'll be heading northwards in just over a month's time; probably get frost bite rather than devoured by midges...

Indeed. April is too early for the 'wee beasties' - https://www.calltoadventure.uk/post/midges-in-scot...
I've only had one year which was affected in late September. Leave it another 7-10 days if needs be.

See above.

Great pics and tips guys on here and by DM - thanks a lot! A832 added to list!

Never had any issue with midges there but tend to go before or after the crowds April or Late Sept. Mind you this 1st pic was in June last year with the family and not a bite received. 1000 points to anyone who can name the places (2nd one is easy)!

I love driving this sort of almost-single-track(!) stuff that rolls around and feels like it's an organic part of the landscape that came about through historic use, instead of something being engineered and plonked on top of it - it feels like one is travelling back in time to how things used to be everywhere smile (and that's not a comment on Scotland in general wink lol laugh )

It's not often that I come across a comment that really nails it in a new way, but you just did. That's exactly how I feel and why I prefer single tracks, roads that hug rivers etc. to say the Kylesku bridge or the massive EU-funded section of the A832 near Achnasheen (as spectacular as those roads are).
