FYI, We do have the Fungle Road up here nr Aboyne smile but it’s an old prehistoric ‘road’ that, as you may have guessed isn’t even a road!

Would love to see a list, but road quality can deteriorate so quickly up here it’d be hard to keep such a list up to date.
That may or may not be the origin story of my user name...

Is there a definite list anywhere of (relatively speaking) the best quality road surfaces and/or roads that are enjoyable to drive regardless of the scenery?

My own pleasure from a trip to the Highlands is by the driving experience and not by threading my way down a single-track road.
Invergarry (or Invermorrison) > Invershiel > Strathcarron > Achnasheen > Kinlochewe > Talladale.

Fast, sweeping, nearly all two lanes. 95% good to excellent road surfaces. +/- 100 miles.

That sort of road is going to be miserable when 'Intelligent' Speed Adaptation in vehicles becomes mandatory to use.

Has the Invershiel > Strathcarron > Achnasheen stretch been resurfaced? I haven't been over to visit family on Skye since last year but from memory the at one time excellent surface was feeling pretty knackered - even driving a Hilux!

I had my first drive out this year at the weekend, the roads weren’t too shabby!

Drove Strathcarron > Invergarry two weeks ago. The surfaces seemed fine, though I don't think they have been resurfaced.

Would I be right in thinking the weekend of 4th May this year is likely to be a nightmare in terms of traffic, what with it being May Bank Holiday, and then it continues being crap until September? lol

Just wondering if I might be able to sneak up for a few days around that time...
It is also the WC DH Mountain Bike championships and Scottish Six Day Trial (motorbikes) in Ft William and a horse event near Oban.

DO NOT think about driving that way (Glencoe) from about the 2nd through to the 6th. There will be queues.

Wow, I'm glad they are all OK. Still it's not all bad as that's one less camper van!

The road between Melvich and Moine House just past Tongue has become a tipper driver race track due to the Space Port still sinking into the peatland. Be careful folks. If the trucks don’t get you, the large rocks on the road won’t do your cars and bikes any favours.

Jesus H! Bet you sucked yourself in tight as you passed each other.
(That didn't really come across quite how I intended it to, but wtf, fill your boots!)
