D'oh - I was zooming in from the roundabout.

That no U-turn sign is rather small to be an official instruction sign, isn't it? Are there C&U regulations about the minimum size of an instructive sign (as opposed to a repeater, which this doesn't appear to be)?


Either way, N'castle CC look to be as bad as Nottingham and Oxford Councils (two cities within travelling distance of me which I wholeheartedly avoid). Utterly cretinous behaviour with some rather disruptive consequences to business...

There's a no u-turn sign.

The correct answer is you read the signs as you're entering and do a u-turn or turn off into the right hand round at the mini-roundabout before you hit this junction.

As there is no way out once you have committed from the mini roundabout, shouldn't the road from the mini roundabout be a no motor vehicles except buses, taxis and access?

The white sign is just an advisory, and is perfectly fine to drive past it and upto the lights, but after that, you are trapped. So why isn't the only way into the trap signed the same as the restrictions at the lights?

But that requires thought and intelligence from the council, how silly of me to think that might happen.

90° left, so 180° = straight on and 270° = 90° right, 360° = back the way you came.

It used to be OK but it's a nightmare now. Bus lanes, no right turns, etc. Central Station is the same. I've been driving there for years. Went a few months back and found myself in a bus lane that cropped up overnight and also discovered I couldn't drive through the arch anymore. I like town for the nightlife but won't drive in anymore for shopping. As much as I like the shops, Metro Centre is a lot easier.

The arch at the bottom of Dean Street? Been many a year since that one was closed to traffic. I think I'm right in saying you can no longer scoot up the cobbled street from the quayside to the back of the train station/telegraph. Used to love my little shortcuts. They're all being closed off. If I lived nearer a metro station, I doubt I'd ever drive through town.

Coming to the end, at the side exit of Eldon Square, sitting waiting at a red light, bloke from 7.5 tonner behind gets out of cab to inform me (good naturedly) that I'd be £70 out of pocket due to all these effin cameras, and that he got a ticket just last week.

Don't know how exactly I got there, but I didn't get a ticket. So far... Agree though, It's a shambles.

You are confusing direction with angle through which the vehicle turns. In the context of angle of turn then 360 is a complete circle of the roundabout to continue in the original direction.

I think they only continue to allow cars to travel as far the mini-roundabout, so you can get back across to the Eldon Square car park entrance when coming in from that direction.

Very very delayed comment on this thread, but I’m just curious if anyone has done this recently and if they got a PCN? I am really new to the area and I went through it earlier, after taking a wrong turn and ending up in the centre!

Ideally I don’t want a ticket, but obviously I had nothing else I could do, so I just ended up having to go right.

Well at the ripe age of 43 and having lived in Sunderland (Newcastle's bigger/older brother) all my life. I've driven most of the UK's major cities, including London and the infamous magic roundabout in Swindon and I still actively try to avoid driving into Newcastle where possible. It has the worst one way system I've seen to date.

The best thing to come out of that place is the A1 South bound and they even messed that up with the stupid 50 mph limit

I drove through this junction two weeks ago, luckily I didn't receive a fine. It's very difficult to see the road signs at the moment as they have roadworks on the mini roundabout, so you will exit the roundabout and realise it's too late.
